"A Wonderful Surprise"
I purchased Carrion Death during a Audible sale and it has been sitting in my "to listen" folder for many months. I recently went looking through the folder to find titles I had not listened to and found Carrion Death. It is a delightful, intriguing, and fascinating mystery. The character of Detective Kubu is a delight as an intelligent investigator who loves food, wine and opera. The narration is excellent and the portrait of southern region of Africa is fascinating and beautifully painted by Mr. Stanley. I look forward my next listen and it will not months before my next encounter with Det. Kubu.
"Maddy Clare will haunt you"
I was alone in a strange town in a hotel room when I started to listen to the tale of the haunting of Maddy Clare read by Pamela Garelick and I found myself falling into a mesmerizing and complex ghost story, The tale is an old one of a ghost seeking justice - but Pamela Garelick's performance brought out the heart stopping terror of the ghost of Maddy Clare. Maddy is not a kind and friendly ghost, she is complex and full of anger and demands. So, turn down the lights, light the fire and enjoy a traditional haunting Gothic ghost story.
"An Extraordinary Listen"
This is a wonderful joyous celebration from an outstanding actor. I have always enjoyed Ms. Spacek and I truly enjoyed listening and learning about her life's journey. The stories of her early childhood in Texas are delightful and heartwarming. Her Hollywood tales provide insight and a laugh as she discovers her acting instrument and the love of her life. May we all be blessed with an extraordinary ordinary life.
"The joy of Lord Peter"
What joy one more Lord Peter story. If I could have one author added to audible it would be Dorothy Sayers. The Lord Peter novels were the first recorded books I checked out of the library and I was hooked. Please bring Dorothy Sayers and Lord Peter titles to Audible.
"A Classic Tale"
I read Watership Down when it first was published and I have memories of truly enjoying this tale of rabbits and their daily life and struggle. I purchased WD on sale and I am delighted with this excellent presentation. The story is thrilling and the characters are charming, intelligent, strong and captivating. I highly recommend this excellent both for book and narrator.
"Sheep Mystery"
Well, what can one say about a mystery about a flock of sheep who wake one day to find their good shepherd dead. The sheep try to solve the mystery of who killed George and find a new shepherd who will continue to read romance novels to them. There were images in this very silly tale that had me laughing out loud. May not be great classic literature, but it is truly a unique story that makes a fun listen.
"A delightful English Tale"
I love the Major! This delightful tale will warm your heart, make you smile, and let you believe in a happy ending. Ms. Simonson structures the story with surprises and well imagined characters. Peter Altschuler is a wonderful narrator who makes the Major come alive. If you need a little joy in you listening, Major Pettigrew is well worth an investment of a credit.
"Excellent Narrator and Characters"
I am a fan of Binaca Amator her voice is lyrical and takes me into the characters head and spirit. Dragon's Keep is a good fantasy novel written for teens. The plot is interesting and the book has good character development. However, I felt that the ending was rushed and built on a series quickly written plot devices to produce the ending and conclude the book. I was to say the least disappointed.
"Great Memorable Characters"
The Cruelest Month is my first book by Louise Penny and it is wonderful. The narrator is excellent with outstanding French accent. However, there is a major plot line in this novel that is covered in the first two books. I recommend reading the books in order. I am going back and listen to Still Life and have a wonderful journey with the Chief Inspector Gamache and his team.
"As good as I remember her to be"
When I was about 9 years old I fell in love with Nancy Drew. We share the same name. She is my first mystery heroine and the Secret of the Old Clock was the first of thousands of mystery novels I have read over the years. Ms. Linney does a wonderful performance of bringing Nancy to life. Nancy drives her little sports car and goes to luncheon with her friends. She is brave and cleaver and a good helpful person.
