Cut out all the endless description of every movement, room etc that added nothing to the story or characters.
These days we all own calculators, so endelss calculations of how many seconds how many metres etc were just waffle put in to stretch a poorly developed plot to a never ending story.
I am a fan of all the Reacher stories, but this one was the exception - it was just plain boring.
The reader made things worse, he would be more suited to reading cook books for old ladies.
Why, why would ask anyone else but Jeff Harding to read Reacher ??????
Definitely nothing read by Mr Hagon, sorry mate look for something else to do.
Not many Reacher books left on here, but you can't go wrong with Jeff Harding, he makes bad writers sound good and good writers sound better!
A complete re-write.
None, I would turn it into a first person novel.
The story, the prose and the narration - all very good indeed
Too many to mention...I panicked near the end, though!
I cannot imagine anyone else in the world narrating Matthew Corbett novels. He is one of the most talented narrators around. I wish that he narrated Game of Thrones, then I could actually listen to them....the present narrator...well, he is at the other end of the spectrum. Mr. Ballerini is an excellent reader, I have listened to many of his narrations.
I NEED no6, 7, 8 etc! NOW!
Very well and entertainingly written and read. Informative but not dull in any way. Amazing and startling.
The writer, Professor Birkhead is very knowledgeable and writes in an easy to understand and flowing style that is a pleasure to just sit and listen, and listen...
Not applicable. But Robin Sachs is a sensitive and pleasant reader.
Some of the early (two hundred years or more ago) experiments that were performed on some of the birds species made me cringe in shame for our callousness.
One of the best books I have listened to in a long time. I hope audible will bring to us more of Tim Birkhead's work, hopefully with the same reader.
Enjoyable, illuminating, essential
The read very well and clearly and the text is beautifully written.
A bit too thought provoking for one sitting, but I did not read anything else till it was finished.
Anyone unsure about the fact that IS evolution should definitely read it.
I have not read the printed version, but I always prefer the audio version of any book..as long as the narrator is a good one and Mr. Bryson is an excellent reader.
Too many to mention...but I guess that the one that really sticks in my mind is the lengths the US Government went to stop people from drinking...adding strychnine??
Yes and they are all very well written and read, I cannot remember a single one I did not enjoy. He always provides more that you expect.
Yes as much as was possible.
I definitely recommend it as a great and informative listen.
The smartest and most interesting character was the killer. I wish that he had won. I get annoyed by authors trying to add suspense by getting their charcters to act as morons...that's not nail biting - it's hair pulling!
Nope...it has turned off this author.
Jeff Harding is always a great narrator and if it hadn't been for his work I would have stopped listening half way through. But, there was only so much he could do!
Yep - it wasn't too long...shorter would have been better.
Unfortunately the "you can return this book" option does not work any longer.
I would and I have! It's a great story, very well written and extremely well read/narrated - 10/10 on all counts!
There are many moments. The whole book is one exciting moment after another. For absolute suspense, the chapters on the 'hunt' by the falcons and insane children have to be right up there. The final meeting between the Masker and his Mum is definitely another great moment.
he is a very talented narrator. Each character is depicted with sensitivity and understanding of the story. He is not just reading a book to us, he is acting each and every moment of it. I will be downloading more of his narrations, you can bank on that!
Too many narrators just read the story and it is very difficult to tell which character is actually 'speaking'. But a few talented ones bring the author's work to life, so that you feel like an invisible observer of the action. Mr. Ballerini is one of these, along with Mr. Jeff Harding and Ms Lorelei King one of the two, and now three, of my very best narrators.
Matthew Corbett, of course! he is a great character and I like the way Mr McCammon is gradually developing him into a formidable detective.
I need more Credits!! There are more Corbett books to download!!
Mr McCammon's expertise with descriptions and character development is among the best in my opinion. He paints the scenes like a master artist. Mr. Ballerini's interpretation of each character is masterful.
Matthew Corbett, is an interesting and developing hero, without being a super-macho character but tenacious and intelligent.
I knew I was on a good story when Matthew got his leg trapped in a skeleton's rib cage! His fight for mere survival with One-eye was heart stopping.
I hope they do a mini-series, there is too much for just one movie. Heart-stopping would be a well used but correct tag-line.
I am certainly going to read the rest of the series and will have to wait for the one to be published in 2014.
One additional comment is that the books are excellent value not only because they are so entertaining but because they are long lasting.
