I read Winds of War 40 years ago when it came out & have reread it at least once since. It has always remained one of my all time favorites. The audio version is just wonderful with great narration that brings the characters to life. As with the book, I lived the story for the last several days as I listened every minute available.
The depth of the story, large cast of characters that Herman Wouk handles like a master so you never think, "now who is this?" & the way he paints visual images of people, places & events fully immerses the reader from page 1.
There is never a boring minute. Even with the length of this book, I was ready for more as it finished, not glad it was done.
I would recommend this audiobook to everyone & only hope War & Remembrance will come next & soon.

I've read the book & loved it. And love this audio version just as much. It was wonderful the second time to see/find even more in Cormac McCarthy's wonderful book. The narration is excellent & brings the story to life. (Story- such a lame word for a book that touches one's soul.)

I use the ratings of others as a guide to trying new authors & even new releases of old favorites, balancing the good & bad reviews. This is why I tried this book by Ms. Gabaldon.

The first quarter was interesting although the characters were not particularly endearing. But by about the halfway mark, it was like the reading a Russian novel. Scenes started to seem like filler material. When I found myself blocking out the sound of the narration altogether, it was time to quit.

Though not a fan of abridged versions of audio books, in this novel an abridged version would have worked quite nicely.

I enjoyed the Sandra Brown's newest book & am enamored with this way of "reading" after listening to my first couple of audio books. It was also nice to see two main characters that were not paragons but had real life flaws.
The narration lacked a lot. The narrator made Elise sound as if she was whining virtually all the time. This does not endear her to a listener. Being new to audio books & without reading the book, it's impossible to tell if this is how Brown intended her to come across. But she usually has stronger female characters.
