"disappointing"
Why on earth was an American chosen to read a book by an Australia author set largely in Australia, with Australian characters?
The pronunciation of place names is woeful, and the sad attempt at an Australian accent and idiom is so dreadful that it is embarrassing, and has resulted in me abandoning the book.
The book itself is entertaining, but this production is totally spoiled for anyone who lives in Australia, or has ever been there, or even just knows an Australian. I guess the previous high reviews were from people for whom a good story was not ruined because they know nothing of Australia, and have no idea that the mangled utterances of the characters in this story are as foreign to Australian ears as they are to American listeners.
