I like spy thrillers but so many of them are populated with unbelieveable characters in weak plots. The confessor had a very interesting story, with people I developed an affection for. It is definitely worth listening to.
I decided to try this author given the positive reviews she received from other listeners but I was greatly disappointed. I was looking for a mystery/adventure story and the description of the plot for this book had indicated to me that it could be exciting. Unfortunately, the author gets bogged down in the mundane. I felt too much time was given to minutia about the characters' lives in an effort to develop them personally, and too little time was devoted to plot development. After I finished listening to the book my response was "eh." I may try this author again but I'm going to be careful to read other reviews of her other novels before choosing which one.
I had read one of the author's previous books, "Ashes to Ashes," and hadn't liked it. I think this author has a tendency to be a whiner and her female characters tend to be victimized. This book was less that way, and I enjoyed it from start to finish. The story and characters are well drawn and the idea of an adolescent who is trying to care for his younger brother while being stalked by a killer energizes the story. If you hadn't liked this author before give her another chance, you'll be glad you did.
