Paulo Coelho's enchanting novel has inspired a devoted following around the world. This story, dazzling in its simplicity and wisdom, is about an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago who travels from his homeland in Spain to the Egyptian desert in search of treasure buried in the Pyramids. Along the way he meets a Gypsy woman, a man who calls himself king, and an Alchemist, all of whom point Santiago in the direction of his quest.

What did you like best about The Alchemist? What did you like least?

    The book is well narrated.

Would you ever listen to anything by Paulo Coelho again?

    No.

Have you listened to any of Jeremy Irons’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No. I could listen to him all day.

Do you think The Alchemist needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I wouldn't bother with a follow up to this book. Other than the narration, I did not find the book engaging.

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

Where does Gone Girl rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's hard to write about the book without spoiling it. This book is a fantastic mystery with many twists and turns. It is thoughtfully crafted and smartly designed. I couldn't stop listening. This book held my attention right up to the last line, where I felt like I was left hanging. I wanted the story to keep going; it felt unfinished. That being said, it is a great story and worth a read/listen.
