Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

    Kindle Customer says: "Great Narration!!"
    "Cheap Thrill"
    Overall

Disappointing. #1 novel on Audible in 2006?! I'd categorize it a "cheap dime novel", as we used to refer to books cranked out by authors who stooped to adding sordid events with the hope of attracting more readers. Every other chapter in this book has some unnecessary titillating account with cheap sexual descriptions.

Late one night, exploring her father's library, a young woman finds an ancient book and a cache of yellowing letters. The letters are all addressed to "My dear and unfortunate successor", and they plunge her into a world she never dreamed of: a labyrinth where the secrets of her father's past and her mother's mysterious fate connect to an inconceivable evil hidden in the depths of history.

Haller is a Lincoln Lawyer, a criminal defense pro who operates out of the backseat of his Lincoln Town Car, to defend clients at the bottom of the legal food chain. It's no wonder that he is despised by cops, prosecutors, and even some of his own clients. But an investigator is murdered for getting too close to the truth and Haller quickly discovers that his search for innocence has taken him face to face with a kind of evil as pure as a flame.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes. Plot was intriguing with a surprise ending that held my interest all the way.

Would you be willing to try another book from Michael Connelly? Why or why not?

Probably not because he uses profanity more than I enjoy listening to.

The Second World War lasted for 2,174 days, cost $1.5 trillion, and claimed the lives of more than 50 million people. Why did the Axis lose? And could they, with a different strategy, have won? Andrew Roberts's acclaimed new history has been hailed as the finest single-volume account of this epic conflict. From the western front to North Africa, from the Baltic to the Far East, he tells the story of the war - the grand strategy and the individual experience, the cruelty and the heroism - as never before.

Mike From Mesa says: "A very interesting book with some shortcomings."

Filled with humor, wisdom and loving detail, the powerful story of Peter Marshall's life has touched the hearts and minds of millions of people. It's a story about love--the love between a dynamic man and his God, and the tender love between a man and the woman he married. It is also the gripping adventure of a poor Scottish immigrant who became chaplain of the United States Senate and one of the most revered men in America.

What would have made A Man Called Peter better?

It should have been written by a non-involved 3rd party.

What could Catherine Marshall have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

She is his wife, but she sounded too proud of him and herself.

How could the performance have been better?

This book had no pizazz. Boring.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I loved her book Christy but found myself very disappointed in this.

    Any additional comments?

This book is supposed to be about a man full of faith. He was, but this is a boring book.
