This is a great story and will be more enjoyable if one had read/listened to the other titles in the Arcane Society Books, though it isn't essential.

Unfortunately, the narration is of very poor quality which is astonishing in a Brilliance Audio title! I haven't quite decided whether the reader just has a harsh, unpleasant voice or she was so utterly bored with the story that it came out that way. I actually checked my mp3 player several times to make certain that it was playing at the proper speed. The reader's uninterest in the story is very obvious.

It's a shame since this is an interesting story. I hope that this is the last book she reads for Amanda Quick, Jayne Castle, Jayne Ann Krentz. Since I am major fan of this author.

I was disappointed in this latest offering from Nora Roberts. It had a lot of potential and there was some very good story here. Unfortunately, the main characters in this book were the dogs. Actually, the dogs had a lot more character than did the hero Simon. He was extremely 2-D. I do not like dogs and would not have bothered with the book if I had known ahead of time that the entire store would revolve more around the dogs and dog training than in the serial killer. It is possible to have a story where the main character is a dog trainer without going into tedious detail about the dogs.

This is just the latest in disappointing books by Nora Roberts. Didn't like the wedding planner ones and last years Black Hills was ruined by the preachiness about wild animal rescue. If it wasn't for the JD Robb's which were excellent, I'd say that she is no longer interested in telling a good story.

This is the third book Mike Resinck has written about the Other Manahttan, the one along side of ours where magic works, goblins, demons, vampires, etc. Although it is not totally necessary to read/listen to Stalking the Unicorn or Stalking the Vampire first, I do recommend it for maximum enjoyment.

John Justin Mallory has been hired to find Flurry, a "toy" (11 inches at the shoulder) dragon who is the shoe-in winner at The Eastminster Show at Madison Round Garden. In addition, the Grundy, the most powerful and evil demon in the world (and Marlory's greatest enemy) has doubled his fee to find Fluffy because he's a sportsman and doesn't want his Carmeletta to win by default.

The very idea of Flurry is histerical! She's an 11 inch at the shoulder, dragon who eats only elephant shaped chocolate covered marshmellow cookies.

Anyone who has attended a dog. cat or horse show will recognize the behaviors of the owners and breaders of the show dragons.

The mystery is fairly transparent, but one doesn't listen to this kind of parady for the plot. It's the characters and the situations that are so funny from the goblins popping out all the dark alleys to try to sell you something that you don't want to the magic mirror that complains about the room's appearance and his owner's choice of viewing material to his partner Colonel Winnifred Carruthers, the great white hunter (and old lady)to the office cat (a female catperson).

It's great, Resnick paradies the hard boiled detector story as well as most of pulp fiction while taking a shot at the very serious nature of people with their show animals....

The naration is excellent!

This is one of Linda Howard's best early, romantic suspense stories. Karen is a nurse who gets word that her estranged father was killed in New Orleans after a very long night shift at the hospital. Her father has been living on the streets on New Orleans and it looks like a straight forward shooting of a homeless man.

Before she has time to rest, she is talked into going to New Orleans to ID the body. The detective, Mark Chastain, tall, dark & gorgeous, takes an instant dislike to her. He mistakes her fatigue and emotional control for coldness. He soon realizes his mistake and seduces her over the next few days. She freaks out and runs back to Columbus, where she barrells into a contract killer at her apartment. She escapes him only to run into hit & run driver who is almost hits her and her friend Piper.

Meanwhile, back in New Orleans, Mark is angry that Karen left without a word and has linked her father's death to a body that dumped just over the Mississippi border. He gets a visit by a government agent who is pretending to be FBI.

So, Mark & Karen are working out their relationship while trying to figure out why a contract killer was after Karen. What did her father have that was so important?

It's a fast pace realistic tale and only slightly dated. It was first published in 1998.

The narration is really good with the reader showing expression and using different voices for the different characters.

FYI, all the Queen's Men has a loose link to this story in that a minor character in this one is a hero in that one.

This is a great urban fantasy series! This is the first book and I'm glad to see it on Audible and hope that Books 2&3 also come to Audible soon. Mercy is a VW mechanic working in Washington State. She is also a Walker who turns into a coyote who was raised by werewolves. She bought her shop from a gremlin, fixes her vampire friend's van (he's a Scooby-Doo fan) and lives next door to the Alpha of the local werewolf pack. Although the Fey have come out in public, most people don't believe in werewolves, walkers or vampires. She is trying to stay out of the public eye until one day a young, staving werewolf shows up asking for work -under the table. Mac is a young teenager who was attached and forced to change into a werewolf and then sold to people who are using him for drug testing. Suddenly, Mercy is pulled back to the world of the werewolves which she left at 16.

I am delighted to see the first book of the retriever series here at Audible! This is great urban fantasy with a well crafted other world co-existing with ours. The magic is called "current" because it's like electricity and is attracted to electricity. The Wren uses her talent for current as well as agility to retrieve lost items. This time, she's sent after a stolen cornerstone of a building. The owners want the cornerstone, along with the protective spell it contains, back.

This is a multifaceted story full of interesting characters. There's a lot of humor too as the different worlds interact. I love PB and how ordinary people completely miss seeing a short, furry black & white demon in a trench coat!

There are currently 5 retreiver novels. Hopefully Audible will get all 5!

I love this type of alternative world mystery and Resnick spoofs the mystery and fantasy genres very well in this book. Every cliche is in this story, typically turned on its side.

I bought this book when it first came out and am glad to see that Audible now has it.

I loved this fast paced book - though it appeared as if it were a series of short stories strung together (one short story in itself, an interlude, a longer short story and then a novella) rather than a novel. Children and adults both will enjoy this tale of the two investigators from the Counter Curse division of the IEA. It is fantasy at its best with a talking dog, orgres, magic, elves and even a dragon.

Although it may be a bit violent for very young children, it is a good story for a long drive. I particularly enjoyed the vivid descriptions of the different types of transportation in this world. (Like all the best amusement park rides.)

The only thing that I didn't care for is the portrail of female characters. There were very few of them and they were typically silly and/or incompetent.

I love the Southern Vampire books! C. Harris has created a fascinating universe in which the vampires have come out of the coffin, but the shapeshifters, fairies and others definitely have not! This is the 4th in the series and can be read without reading the other books. however, it's much more enjoyable to read the others first, so that the interactions between the major and minor characters are clear.

Harris has created an intrecate polical structure for the different supernaturals ("supes")who either hate, ignore or tolerate the other supes with the vampires being the most organized. Sookie Stackhouse, the telepathic barmaid, has been dragged into vampire politics before (and hated it) and now is about to be heavily involved in werewolf politics - the succession of the packmaster of Shreveport.

After having no love life for most of her life (the local men would rather think she's nuts rather than telepathic), Sookie's current love life is a mess. She is definitely not seeing her first boyfriend, Vampire Bill. Eric, Head vampire in the area and Bill's boss, desperately wants to know what happened when he had amnesia and stayed with Sookie (book #3). Sam, Sookie's boss, is a shapeshifter and interested (but only after she starting dating Bill). Calvin, a werepather from an isolated and very strange small town, is courting her. And Alcide, a werewolf, wants to marry her but he also wants to help his father become the next packmaster of Shreveport.

Sookie's brother Jason now turns into a werepanther during the full moon and someone is shooting the shapeshifters of BonTon.

One of the most interesting things about this universe is that the people accept that vampires exist but refuse to admit that shapeshifters, witches and magic also exist!

The recording is excellent with the reader doing a good job with the different voices. I wish that the other books were also available at Audible!

While Georgette Heyer is best known for her Regency Romances, she did write a series of cosy mysteries. This is one of my favorites! It's a little dated, having been written in the early 20th Century during the Golden Age of Mystery, but it's still a great story full of wonderful characters. You can almost see eccentric Aunt Harriet! And one does wonder why it took so long for someone to murder Uncle!

This is a cosy mystery set in an upper class British family 'tween the Wars. The audio is very clear and easy to understand for the most part. The reader does a good job with different voices for the different characters.

Like other mysteries of this era, the object of the story is to guess "who done it" before the detective does. The clues are all there, but I bet you don't guess...
