"Not bad for a Romance Novel, but not her best work"
While I enjoyed the story it wasn’t what I was expecting.
I was expecting more of an in depth story line with action and some romance (like the Challion series). Instead this is a romance novel with a sprinkling of magic and some action.
Book 1 & 2 are both good stories but again they are not fantasy/action novels – they are love stories.
If I had purchased these as romance novels I would have given them a 4 but I was expecting more out of Bujold.
"Terry Goodkind gets 5 STARS; Narrator gets ZERO"
I purchased Wizards First Rule on cassette many years ago. I found it to be a very compelling book packed with action and hard to put down. It is one of my all time favorite books. The original story was narrated by Dick Hill (one of the best narrators ever). Unfortunately the Author and Publisher went cheep and hired Jim Bond one of the worst narrators ever to read the Audible version. While I give the original version 5 stars I have to give this version just a single star. The narrator really detracts for the story with his monotone droning. Save your money and get the book on tape, read by Dick Hill, at your local library. It is a GREAT story that is in need of a good narrator.
"What was the author thinking?"
What was the author thinking? I purchased this thinking it would be a good SiFi story, but after a short time I figured I had purchased a kids book in error, then came the sex orgy and away went that idea. I am having a hard time imaging what the target audience for this book is. The story reads like a child’s book but there are a few places that make it for ADULTS ONLY. Too bad, the author could have easily re-worked just a couple of areas and had a simple youth story, but as it stands I would have to say too childish for most adults and definitely NOT for children.
To make things worse, there is no conclusion; it would be nice to have some wrap up of the story. Well I guess the author thinks that we will purchase the next book – Wrong.
Enjoy something else – this is not worth your time.
"No humor - No Story - Avoid"
This was like listening to a high school text book.
I have been listening to audio books for many years and this is the first one I ever had to bail out of a book (I could only take about 3 hours then had to turn it off).
This book contains no humor, no interesting stories, just dates and facts. Great if you want a reference book but it is a very poor read.
Avoid this book.
"Don't Waste your Money on This..."
Orson Scott Card is an excellent writer, but who ever did the editing on this abridged copy was a butcher. I think a computer could randomly take chunks out of the book and done a better job of keeping the story together than who ever abridged this copy. At one point in the book the hero is standing on the edge of an impassable chasm and in the very next sentence he is on the other side being attacked by a bear.
This book gets VERY POOR marks for continuity and average marks for the story itself.
DON’T WASTE YOU MONEY ON THIS!
