The theme of this four-day retreat: "It's Always Now" The Now is inseparable from who you are at the deepest level. It is the prerequisite of Being. As you listen to the words on this tape, you participate in the retreat. To "retreat" means to step back - not only from the outer world, but also from the world in your head, the thinking mind. Allow the sound of the words to take you beyond words and beyond sound to the stillness within.

I found this to be engaging, challenging and comforting. I find myself compelled to indicate that as the sessions progressed, I found myself anticipating and dreading the sole yacking, laughing attendee whose threshold for sharing his joy seemed quite a bit lower than everyone else in the room. In spite of my desire to "be in the now" - which I should have been , in response to this individual, I found it distracting and detracted from my ability to listen to it again

Lisey Debusher Landon lost her husband, Scott, two years ago, after a 25-year marriage of the most profound and sometimes frightening intimacy. Scott was an award-winning, best-selling novelist, and a very complicated man. Early in their relationship, before they married, Lisey had to learn from him about books and blood and "bools". Later, she understood that there was a place Scott went, a place that both terrified and healed him, could eat him alive, or give him the ideas he needed in order to live.

I was really looking forward to this based on book reviewers. Couldn't finish it. Continually spinning its wheels on an overworked theme- the one left behind - alive- . Tried it two or three times for several hours. "Rumination all over again", lapsing "phraseology" , as if the author is remunerated , based per page.

One of the most widely read of Dickens' major novels, Hard Times is Dickens' powerful and withering portrait of Coketown, a Lancashire mill town, in the 1840s. The novel is particularly harsh in indicting England's educational system, represented by Thomas Gradgrind, who runs a school in which he focuses on driving wonder, fancy, and imagination from children's minds to be replaced only by facts.

Dickens comes alive and seems totally contemporary- not that we really want him to be of our world. This is by far the most engaging narration I have encountered. Found myself looking for other works he has read. The characters are memorable and crystallize in the author's depiction. It is a story that you may find yourself thinking about after it's done.
