"Eh?"
I came away not understanding what his point was in writing this book. Nothing he said was new to me. It is all very commonsensical. That would be ok if he'd actually finished each chapter with some practical tools for parents. Here's the concept, now here's how to put it into practice with your own children. Lazy! Don't waste your money.
"Great story & Best narrator I've heard"
A wonderful, sweet story that makes me feel nostalgic for England. I would not think a child character could be so interesting but Flavia is simply enchanting.
Jayne Entwistle is for sure the best narrator I have heard so far. She brings the story, and all the characters to life. I am sure reading in for a child is no easy feat, but Entwistle’s voice masterfully conjures up Flavia’s intrigue and excitement. A delightful listen. I’m downloading the next book now.
"I want to meet Little Bee"
Interesting that this is written by a man, with such strong, almost exclusively female characters. This is a great read. For me, an English women, it was authentic and took me back home to London. His descriptions bring it to life. The depth of each character is what really draws you in, and hearing the same story told from two perspectives. I am left wanting to meet this Little Bee.
The narrator is good, and believable, but more so for Bee than for Sarah.
"Beautifully written & excellently read."
Roach manages a very sensitive topic with so much care and ease. It is beautifully written and excellently read. The content is interesting, educational and thought-provoking. Very good.
"Good Book - Robotic Narrator"
This is a good book. I have read it before and have found it very useful, whether you are in a difficult period of your marraige or perfectly happy and want to keep it that way. Gottman describes the concepts he has developed over his years of observation and research, and also gives you practicle tools to both assess the state of your relationship in any one area and also to strengthen it.
My issue was with the narrator. He was so deadpan and monotone. I realise it is a piece of non-fiction but still? I don't want to spend several hours of my time listening to an uninteresting voice. It is a pity because I have heard John Gottman speak and he is very charismatic. I would have much prefered he read his own book.
