I have loved Nevil Shutes books for years. His books are the real old fashioned QUALITY writing you dont see much any more. Listening to them adds another layer of enjoyment to an already familiar story. The Pied Piper is a classic story with wonderful character development that draws you right into the perils of WW2 in France.. Any one that loves a good WW2 story will really like this one! Thanks audible for getting so many of Shutes books on audible.

I love the Miss Julia books and had hopes for this one too. It was very disappointing! The story was a departure from the usual funny stories and likeable characters I am used too . The story was tacky, there, were too many sexual references and crude language . I HATED the descriptions of the party and the unfunny behavior of the women after too much drink. I hope Ms Ross returns to her original template for Miss Julia and her friends in her next book.

Master novelist Daniel Silva has thrilled listeners with 16 thoughtful and gripping spy novels featuring a diverse cast of compelling characters and ingenious plots that have taken them around the globe and back - from the United States to Europe, Russia to the Middle East. His brilliant creation, Gabriel Allon - art restorer, assassin, spy - has joined the pantheon of great fictional secret agents, including George Smiley, Jack Ryan, Jason Bourne, and Simon Templar.

Great read! Daniel Silva does such a great job with character development and a completely up to date plot that it could have jumped off the front page of the New York Times.
Gabriel Alon is my favorite Hero! George Guidall is the Best! His narration makes you fell like you are right there and know every character. His diction is perfect. I hated for it to end. Eagerly Looking forward to my next Silva novel.

By July 1914, the ties between Kezia Marchant and Thea Brissenden, friends since girlhood, have become strained - by Thea's passionate embrace of women's suffrage, and by the imminent marriage of Kezia to Thea's brother, Tom, who runs the family farm. When Kezia and Tom wed, just a month before war is declared between Britain and Germany, Thea's gift to Kezia is a book on household management - a veiled criticism of the bride's prosaic life to come.

Not a winner! I did not like this book.It was too grim and had too many descriptions of food

Got through chapter 10 but have no desire to finish it. Very Disappointed. Hope Winspear
sticks to Maisie Dobbs in the future.

In the words of Alexander McCall Smith: "You feel the rocking of the train, you hear the sound of its wheels on the rails; you are in the world rather than suspended somewhere above it. And sometimes there are conversations to be had, which is what the overarching story in this collection is all about. It is a simple device: people brought together entertain one another with tales of what happened to them on trains. It takes place on a journey I frequently make myself and know well, the journey between Edinburgh and London. It is best read on a train, preferably that one."

This book is written somewhat in the style of the 44 Scotland Street Stories. It consists of 4 different stories told in chapters each going back and forth between four passengers riding together on a train.. Each story very different but with a central theme, Love. Likeable characters made the stories they shared very entertaining.

In Goodnight June, Sarah Jio offers a suspenseful and heartfelt take on how the "great green room" might have come to be. June Andersen is professionally successful, but her personal life is marred by unhappiness. Unexpectedly, she is called to settle her great-aunt Ruby's estate and determine the fate of Bluebird Books, the children's bookstore Ruby founded in the 1940s.

I have never read anything by this author and was pleasantly surprised. I liked her style and loved the setting in the Bluebird book store.I Have recommended it to my book group
as the selection for August.. I was fascinated by the friendship between the owner of the store and the famous Children's book author Margaret Wise Brown. Through letters we got to know them well.
Did not really like the voice of the narrator She sounded too old and did not do multiple voices well. I Wish she had a softer voice, she sounded too loud and raspy.
But I liked the story so I tried to get used to the voice.
Will look for another by Sarah Jio but hope to see another narrator.

I thoroughly enjoyed this excellent book. It is so refreshing to find a modern author that does not have to rely on bad language, violence, or steamy sex scenes to carry the story along.
The plot concerns a young woman who finds a box of old love letters when she is renovating an old house .Intrigued by the letters she sets out to find the author,a WW2 veteran living in a nearby town with his devoted handsome grandson .The book is full of likable characters and believable situations all set in a delightful beach town in Florida.

The narration was first rate and I will certainly look for more books by this author.

Another riotously funny book by Ann B Ross. Even after so many books about Miss Julia I have not tired of the characters. I often wonder where she gets the unusual plots.
The narrator, Cynthia Darlow is a master of all the characters voices. Her voice for Lillian and grand daughter Leticia make you feel like you are right there in the kitchen with them.
    Eagerly awaiting next years installment.

Third generation Texas Ranger Tyler Steele is the last of a dying breed - a modern-day cowboy hero living in a world that doesn't quite understand his powerful sense of right and wrong and instinct to defend those who can't defend themselves. Samantha and her daughter, Hope, are on the run from a seemingly inescapable situation. They are in danger, desperate, and alone. Though they are strangers, Ty knows he can help - protecting the innocent is what he does best.

I WAS a fan of Charles Martin but this book was a big disappointment. He has sacrificed his usual good writing with a lot of crude dialogue about body functions and salacious situations with Tyler, the Texas Ranger and "Sam" the woman he rescues. Too much detail about learning to shoot and "manhood" I guess this is a guys book.
I absolutely HATED the little girls "letters to God" her voice was cloying and the content stupid and unbelievable for a 10 year old who had gone through trauma.
The male narrator was the only good part of the book. Skip this one!
