"Eh... it could be worse..."
Warning! This is a ROMANCE story, whatever mystery or plot you may be looking for is secondary to a insipid, pathetic, ROMANCE.
The beginning begins well enough, with the characters intelligently depicted with interesting personalities in a detailed setting. But then, it just degenerates into some fantasy vacation scenerio. I just had to stop listening after chapter 22.
Its a well written book, and the narrator is great, but unless you like ROMANCE don't bother.
"Disappointing"
Boring, Lazy, and Predictable
No
Susan Ericksen is a great reader. I would have otherwise just put the book down halfway through, but because of her great voice, I at least listened to it as background noise while doing other things.
No
I never thought Jacqueline Carey was a great writer, but Santa Olivia was pretty good, and it should have ended with that story. Sadly this is another case of an authur trying to milk to death one decent idea.
"Wow, this is really bad."
It started off well enough, and the main character seems interesting at first, but then all the insipid dialog becomes a bit to much. One dimensional characters, a pansy villain, way to much dialog and not enough action... it all adds up into a really bad book. Perhaps it might get better later on but I am not wasting my time trying to finish it.
"Pretty good"
I was pleasantly surprised by how good this book was, although some of the side characters grated on my nerves. The action was well done and not frivolously bloody, and the main character is interesting.
I hope that if there is another book, the author will flesh out the characters more and give a little more subtlety to the characters.
