I don't give 5 stars to very many books ... this book was so creative, well thought out, not arrested by plot holes, not wrapped up in a 5 minute "happily ever after" ending ... I was very, very impressed!
I adore these books and these characters!
the one big frustration with the audibles is the narrator can't seem to decide if the lead female character's name is pronounced Tan-duh or Tahn-duh ... which both aggravates and boggles the mind!
Some of the characters don't sound the way I've always imagined ... but, that's the risk of listening to an audible after you've read the physical book :)
I can deal with language variances for "aliens and other races" but a gal from L.A. using "me" improperly (ie: "me and him went and did xyz") got very old, quite fast ... perhaps if her dialog was completely askew it wouldn't have been so intolerable /shrugs
Personally, I felt like the narrator was yelling at me the entire book. I had to take breaks strictly for this reason.
I really, REALLY want to love this book ... but, I just can't ... yet!
The creative story line is fabulous! The repetitive use of words, isn't.
On occasion, a passage with repeated words adds to a scene. Over use of such passages simply irritates. (This isn't from the book, but something akin to the kind of thing I mention: "he sat up and found himself in complete darkness. she also found herself in darkness. they couldn't see anything in the darkness. how would they find the path in this darkness? they couldn't see each other in the darkness. all around them was darkness. even shadows went unseen, blending fully into the darkness."
I generally LOVE when an author reads their own book. And this author does a great job at character voices. However, I found it feels like speed reading at times; almost tripping over words.
I could not wish more that this was a pre-screen of the book before editing ... so I could look forward to hearing the "final version."
Several of the chapters in this audio simply cut off mid word and move to the next chapter. I at first thought I had hit the "skip" or "fast fwd" button on accident .. but, realized it was only happening towards chapter end and I hadn't been holding my tablet when they were occurring.
The story is brilliant and wonderfully done. Some of the characters make me cringe, but that is their delight! Others need a solid whap upside the head for they *should* be able to think through how something may go badly.
We love our soap operas and this takes them to a new level: soap opera for the quirky!
This is the beginning of a series I can get lost in again and again!
The narrator does a great job voicing the different characters ... my only gripe was the changing pronunciation of some words/names (Tanda)
If you haven't entered The Myth ... do so ... or be Gleeped!
I want to finish this book ... I forgot that I am not a fan of this narrator ... even sped up, her voice just drones on and on
sad because the story intrigues me
I am convinced the author is/was a time traveler who played the sims and then went back to write a this story
characters who stay true to their personality traits at all costs
dropping items anywhere that suits them
living on whatever food is presented to them
a hint about changing a personality as easily as changing a wig
pulling buckets of paint from pockets
and, of course, ever place needs a pet!
forget all the banter and deep discussion about what the author "really meant" ... go live vicariously in simsville!
there were enough negative reviews that I should've known better
narrator not at all right for character (not sure if right for any character as really annoying verbal usages)
main character is a twit ... the inconsistencies drove me batty
took me a bit to get into this story ... but the end left me eager for the next book!
love the idea that "fairness" is created by making everyone look beautiful!
creative twist to an ageless issue ... how do we get people to act ethical towards one another ... at what cost ... and is it ultimately worth it?
