Outstanding! Adventure! Pirates!

Takes 2nd on my list of favorite books ... closely following Pride & Prejudice

The writing is fabulous, the wit and humor is delightful ... definitely recommend!!!!

took me a bit to get into this story ... but the end left me eager for the next book!

love the idea that "fairness" is created by making everyone look beautiful!

creative twist to an ageless issue ... how do we get people to act ethical towards one another ... at what cost ... and is it ultimately worth it?

first let me say that reading this vs listening to the audible may provide a radically different experience ...

but, getting through this was a *chore* ... the narrator's tone, inflection ... gah! I had to put it on double speed just to complete the audible

that said, this is another book where I found I liked the plot and ideas incorporated ... but there was so much superfluous wordage ... like a mouth full of peanut butter and trying to cram more in

peanut butter is good ... but can overwhelm and end up choking ... which I feel happened

the *constant* "Ancestors this" and "ancestors that" ... was amusing at first ... but good GRIEF no one would actually use it in every other thing they open their mouth to say

also, and again perhaps the narrator ruined it, but I heard "Jen Nolin" waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much ... and I "get" this was part of the "feel" of the community ... but it got old, fast

call her jen, call her ... well, *her*

wasn't impressed - and I love espionage ...

the parts which could have been gritty were completely white-washed ... I felt the details were in all the wrong places

I loved the first half and somewhere into the second half it degraded to like.

The set-up was great. I can see Geoffrey Rush playing Chains so easily!

I started losing interest somewhere around the time of "the big loss" wondering how such brilliant thieves did not have other, unknown, hidden resources to draw upon in case of emergency.

I would have enjoyed more detail on some parts which were glossed over (perhaps something profound learned on the farm?)

Overall, I found the ending a bit lackluster and feel it did not live up to the beginning of the book.

warnings - a few grisly scenes some might not stomach well ... and to those who are greatly offended by language ... this book probably isn't for you. LOL!

I don't give 5 stars to very many books ... this book was so creative, well thought out, not arrested by plot holes, not wrapped up in a 5 minute "happily ever after" ending ... I was very, very impressed!

I haven't read the original (yet) so, for me, this was its own story.

I love a book which gets literal LOL moments and this one had a few. Of course having cuddly cat-things didn't hurt, either :)

As per my always, Will Wheaton is a fantastic narrator! Quite humorous to hear him refer to & give voice to a particular character, which I will let you discover yourself.

liked the plot although it became very predictable early on ...
didn't feel there was enough strife displayed during certain events ...
could do the graphic sex scenes which caused me to be glad I didn't pay much for this audible

the narrator did a fantastic job giving voice to each character

chance for a really in-depth story with this plot idea but unfortunately seemed to prefer to skim the top

major issue with the plot ... and continued frustrations ... could be a really epic idea for a story but fell so flat

one day the council of kin meet and want to tell Shana the truth of her past, send her into the city along with a kin in disguise to keep watch on her and ensure her safety ... and the reasons they are responsible to do so

the next, they decide she must go without being allowed to say goodbyes or have goodbyes said to her, given no information or guide, and dropped in the desert to "figure it all out on her own"

uhm ... huh?

I finished it in the hope there would be a reconciliation for this gaffe ... but only got a, "we were wrong" acknowledgement at almost the very end of the book which then wrapped everything up in a seemingly few pages.

I could continue with plot irks but will just sum it up by saying: disappointed.

I could have done without the "God is BS" garbage at the beginning ... am glad I kept listening ...
as a gamer, I loved this book! As a child of the 80's, it was delightful to "know" all the references.

Will Wheaton is a fantastic narrator! I actually chose the book because I love his story telling ability!


I did have two technical "issues" towards the end of the book which I'll not post here and spoil for anyone ... if you're curious, send me a note and we'll compare complaints :D
