Lola Santisi is a 26-year-old member of Hollywood Royalty (Papa's vying for Best Director Oscar number two, and Mom's a fixture at The Ivy). She suffers from "actorholism" (a fatal addiction to dating hunky actors) and CDD (Career Deficit Disorder, an epidemic among children of Hollywood Royalty).

    KATHY says: "Very Good Listen"
    "story OK, narration not OK"
    Overall

The storyline and characters barely work as a light summer read for the satirical "chick lit" (as much as I loathe that term) genre for which it is so obviously aimed. However, there are much, much better takes on similar subject matter; Plum Sykes' "Bergdorf Blondes" is a cleverly written, engaging example(although I can only vouch for the written book).

It's the narration that makes this audiobook so howlingly bad. The narrator, I suspect a Yankee in southern California clothing, doesn't know her LL Bean from her Louboutins. For a book so reliant on designer references and name dropping, the narrator's terrible accents and obvious unfamiliarity with the subject matter is unforgivable and incredibly distracting.

To know the Sweet Potato Queens is to love them, and if you haven't heard about them yet, you will. Their royal ringleader, Jill Conner Browne, introduces the Queens to the world with this sly, hilarious manifesto about love, life, men, and the importance of being prepared. "great book, poor narration"
    Overall

Great book, poor narration. As others have noted, the author's self-narration is monotone and often difficult to hear. Knowing and loving the hard copy book & others by this author, I was very surprised by her lackluster delivery.

The book, however, is absolutely wonderful, both touching and hilarious. Highly recommended in hard-copy book form

The last novel completed by Jane Austen before she died at 41, Persuasion is often thought to be the story of the author's own lost love. Sir Walter Elliot of Kellynch Hall has three daughters: Elizabeth, who shares his haughty vanity and, at 28 has found no one good enough to marry; Mary, who has, with some condescension, married the son of the local squire; and admirable Anne, who "was nobody with either father or sister".

    Tad Davis says: "Wonderful characters"
    "Excellent"
    Overall

"Persuasion" is the often overlooked jewel of Austen's books, in this listener/reader's humble opinion, so it was a pleasure to to hear this wonderful story told. Nadia May does an excellent job narrating, really bringing these richly-drawn characters to life.

If you've only ever seen the movie versions or heard/read the abridged version, this is not to be missed.

After nursing a broken engagement with Jane Austen novels and Absolut, Courtney Stone wakes up and finds herself not in her Los Angeles bedroom, or even in her own body, but inside the bedchamber of a woman in Regency England. Who but an Austen addict like herself could concoct such a fantasy?

    Twin2th says: "Delightful"
    "fun read for Austen fans"
    Overall

A very fun confection for any Austen fan. Good narration, and enjoyable storyline. Don't think too hard about the physics of the time-travel involved, and it's a fun and at times even insightful peek into the good and the bad of Regency England, a la Austen.
