The narrator is so bad, I can't follow the story. Her stilted delivery makes it impossible to realize what words go together within a sentence, let alone understand the story line. It's nearly as bad as a mechanized verbalization of a written document. I've heard some really bad narrations and have always been able to adapt to their style, but not this time. Wish I could give half stars...I wouldn't have rated the story, as I ddin't hear it, but have to for the review. Please don't use my evaluation of that for other formats of the story...but don't listen to it unless they get another narrator...going to read this on my kindle...
Delivery was flat and unemotional, character voices felt forced, unimaginative and were inconsistent. Possibly the most disappointing was the lack of humor when Danny was teasing Matt. She made many the characters sound childish and petulant. The reading made me feel like I was six years old and an adult without children was reading a story.
I'm glad I had read the book before listening to it.
This is a favorite episode in the series, but the narrator made it a difficult listen; her hesitation every few words had me backing up to make sense of the story line.
Enjoyed the Authors Cut inspite of the presentation
One of my favorite things about a Clancy novel is the attention to detail. It sharpens the imagination and transports you right in the middle of the action...it also makes you wonder just how close to the mark he might be!
And LDP as narrator is the icing on the cake. There are narrators who speak differently for each character - only with the best is that a good thing - most just end up missing the mark. LDP gives each personality their own voice without overtly changing the sound. His accents from different regions are believable and he maintains them well.
Two of the best! Clancy and Phillips. I don't know how authors collaborate, but kudos to Mark Greaney for maintaining the Clancy experience!
The narrator’s overly-rapid, staccato delivery, with misplaced pauses disrupt the flow of the story and makes it very difficult to follow the story. It’s disconcerting enough that I’ll think twice about any book she reads.
I remember truly enjoying reading this book and it's hard to listen to it.
The performance was so bad, it's hard to tell what the story was like...I like Showalter's Lords of the Underworld, but this wasn't one of her best - I think...won't listen to books read by this narrator again...
