First let me say that having read (or listened to) "Legacy of Ashes" and thought it was pretty good and I will probably listen to it again, this one not so much.
The title "Enemies" does look like the correct title since that's what Hover did create enemies, not only for him but for the whole country
Problem I think is that while "Legacy or Ashes" followed the whole CIA and how it did things where as "Enemies" was mostly about how J.Edgar Hover mostly ran things like he wanted to and really effed things up pretty good - Hover lived with his mother until he was in his 40's until she died! and he worked a normal government job not a bum or something like that, also he never ever had a relationship with anyone, never had sex ever according to all reports about him, its just strange.
After Hover dies and someone else takes over the FBI and it went to all sorts of different people in charge of the FBI because since Hover had really strange rules and polices in place that were hard to remove it was perceived by the President that they were doing things wrong.
There were some reviews that mentioned this wasn't as good as "Legacy of Ashes" and they were right, I don't know what the main problem is other than the large focus on Hover but that cant be avoided I guess when someone runs the FBI for as long as he did but it just doesn't feel as good as the other book, or as good as I think it could be.
I dont have anything to add that would make this better but I got the idea I couldn't want for the book to end until it got to the point that Hover was out of the picture.
I guess this book would be better 50 years from now since Hover ran the FBI until 1972 and then it was just cleaning up the mess that Hover left behind and forgetting the ways he put into effect, it was only after Sept 11th that the FBI started getting better so 50 years from now it would make a much better book to see how things went on from now
The main action takes place in Disney World and at this point you know that the Kildar can take care of bad guys and likes his women (or teenagers sometimes) so this time he gets to do much of both.
Terrorists get some VX gas into the Disney World park and its up to Mike and his teams to stop it as usual.
I like how this story has gone so far, Mike or the "Kildar" as hes known now has become a cool character, although he does like to do some pretty questionable stuff he also saves people at his own risk even when its not part of the mission hes on so hes not that bad of a guy.
There are a few times when he tells someone hes not a good guy he just does good things from time to time and this might not be what most people think is good but at least hes doing good things.
The "Kildar" as Mike is called now really does live a good life, hes killed terrorists and rescued a whole bunch of young girls who were sold off as sex slaves even stopped a nuclear event or prevented it from being so bad and now he just wants to chill out but he keeps getting bothered by people.
This time the Kildar is trying to stop a new form of small pox from getting out and killing everyone, as you might expect he does some good killing here and his new teams are great.
I think if you have read this far just finish the series its only 2 more books as of this review (15 Dec 2014)
Trust me the next 2 books are just as good.
This is one that has much less graphic sex/rape scenes in it although there are ones with young virgin teenage girls but that's not bad because its not really rape and things are pretty different in those parts of the world.
This book follows the recovery of a missing daughter of some powerful political person in America but things take strange turns before the end of the book.
Mike has a whole militia now and they are trained better than most in the world and he takes them to Europe and does some killing, this whole series has been good so far and this book having much less of the graphic sex/rape stuff its much better.
There is a whole lot of turns in this story and it really does keep you guessing, I cant see a reason to stop if you have read this far and liked the story.
The first book had a graphic sex and rape scene in it and although the main character does some pretty bad things and thinks bad things also its not that bad, this one has a little scene about S&M and some young girls all over 18 maybe over 21 not sure, but again like the first book just skip this because the story is great.
Mike cant seem to get a brake here and every time he gets into the shit as it were he comes out pretty badly hurt but has lots of money to show for it, this time he decided to take a trip into the mountains and he ends up buying the whole place and spending some money to outfit a militia for his protection.
This whole series goes pretty well other than the graphic sex and rape scenes but those are almost gone by the 3rd book, although they are replaced with normal sex scenes not to much graphic much different though.
Again if you just skip over the graphic sex/rape scenes you should really like this whole series
Well I am sure you have read some of the reviews and some are 5 star and some are 1 star and talk about sex scenes and rape and both are right but its only the first book and second book that have this in it the others are really toned down like.
I got book 1 and like the other Ringo books I really liked it so I got the next 2 books then I got to this crazy sex scene stuff and was not liking it, I watch porn I just don't want to read or listen to some guy explain it in detail that sucked - so I decided to return book 2 and 3 which Audible did without problem.
However I decided I had to finish the book 1 because I already listened to so much at this point I didn't feel right returning it and I don't like leaving things unfinished, well I was glad I just skipped through that scene because the story got great and I was disappointed I returned the books so I re-bought them even though I just returned them a few days before.
I must say other than that 1 part in this book it is great, its not that its bad it just is that a man is telling me it, maybe if it were a sexy woman it would be different but I don't like women narrators much unless its one of those ones with a different person for each character.
give this a try anf just skip over that part, you will know when you get to it and its not that long, the second book has another one but not so much.
This is the last book in this sequence and really at this time 30 Oct 2014 this is the last book in this whole series of books but more are being created now so if like me you really liked these books you want more but after reading these books for like 9 months I want to take a break so I a few years I hope a few more sequences are released and I can get back into this.
This whole series was great, a few of the books were a little better then the others otherwise it would have been a 5 star across the board.
The narrator was simply great, he did a great job at the different voices with exception of maybe a few that I thought was someone else - like Brens Brother and some guy from the state department, the voices sound pretty much the same but I guess this can happen in real life and there are only so many voices one can do and there were lots of characters in this whole series so the narrator did a great job, 5 star for sure.
check the first book in this sequence for the full review.
This continues where thing's left off in the last book and there is 1 more book left in this sequence so if you have read this one you have to go to the next one to really get an ending, as I have said a few times before these are 1 book split into 3 for the sequences.
It goes without saying that if you have read this far then you are going to continue the whole series and at this point on 30 Oct 2014 this is the last sequence available now however there are books planed and I think one is in the works now.
This will be a review of the whole sequence as I have said in all the other reviews.
The Civil War is over at this point and after these many books it comes back to Cageiri and his friends from the space ship as you were probably wanting to know what happens since like the second or third sequence when they were introduced, the whole sequence of books pretty much focus around Cageiri and his friends split between Bren and all the things he has to do.
What I have really liked about this whole series is the way it goes to another story and feels like a totally different group of books but in the same world, I cant wait for the rest of the story to be created.
This is like the other reviews that I have done the real review is really in the first book in the sequences for each group of them so go there and read that.
This being the last book in the sequence doesn't end in a cliff hanger so you can wait if you need and read the next sequence later.
This is again not really a review because the full review is in the first book int eh sequence, but this whole group of books has still stayed good all the way up to this point and to be honest at the end as well, or up to the 15th book as of this review that's all that's out now.
