First let me say that the Narrator isn't as good as the one on the first book but not as bad as the one for the 4th book Ringworld's Children, it should be the same narrator for all the books in a series but I guess its not possible every time
This is the start of a series of books that the author never set out to make a series, this was never planed but after 10 years and many fans point out errors with the Ringworld as well as wanting more he made this book and I am glad he did.
The author says that MIT students attending the 1971 World Science Fiction Convention chanted, "The Ringworld is unstable! The Ringworld is unstable!" Niven says that one reason he wrote The Ringworld Engineers was to address these engineering problems.
In the first book you are introduced to the Ringworld and there are some inaccurate or overlooked features about the Ringworld that were corrected in this book or at least helped to explain them better, if you read the first book and loved it then this is a must read.
Louis Wu went to the Ringworld 20 years ago and now he goes back with his friend Chmeee (the "ch" is pronounced like a guttural German "ch", as in "ach" the narrator does it correct in this book but the one for the 4th one Ringworld's Children don't) "Speaker-to-Animals" from the first book who has a name.
This book explores some of the Ringworld and you get to see more of how it works, it has become unstable in its orbit and if not corrected it will brush against its sun and obliterate everything on the surface and probably destroy the Ringworld itself but Louie Wu and hos motley crew are back to help fix the problem.
There must be a control or repair center on the Ringworld to fix the problem and they must find it, but who made the Ringworld and how long ago is still a mystery that will be discovered in this book.
There are whole maps of planets in a 1:1 scale on the Ringworld that are of Worlds in Known Space including Earth and Mars, others are unknown but you find out its the home world of the makers of the Ringworld.
other questions still remain after reading this book, some will be answered in the following books and others can be found in the prequels, still others remain a mystery for the reader to infer.
This is pretty much a must read if you liked the first book, now some people say the next one isn't that good and that the 4th one is also not so good, I have read them all and they aren't bad, you can read my reviews of them also if you look them up
This is the last book in this sequence and really at this time 30 Oct 2014 this is the last book in this whole series of books but more are being created now so if like me you really liked these books you want more but after reading these books for like 9 months I want to take a break so I a few years I hope a few more sequences are released and I can get back into this.
This whole series was great, a few of the books were a little better then the others otherwise it would have been a 5 star across the board.
The narrator was simply great, he did a great job at the different voices with exception of maybe a few that I thought was someone else - like Brens Brother and some guy from the state department, the voices sound pretty much the same but I guess this can happen in real life and there are only so many voices one can do and there were lots of characters in this whole series so the narrator did a great job, 5 star for sure.
check the first book in this sequence for the full review.
This continues where thing's left off in the last book and there is 1 more book left in this sequence so if you have read this one you have to go to the next one to really get an ending, as I have said a few times before these are 1 book split into 3 for the sequences.
It goes without saying that if you have read this far then you are going to continue the whole series and at this point on 30 Oct 2014 this is the last sequence available now however there are books planed and I think one is in the works now.
This will be a review of the whole sequence as I have said in all the other reviews.
The Civil War is over at this point and after these many books it comes back to Cageiri and his friends from the space ship as you were probably wanting to know what happens since like the second or third sequence when they were introduced, the whole sequence of books pretty much focus around Cageiri and his friends split between Bren and all the things he has to do.
What I have really liked about this whole series is the way it goes to another story and feels like a totally different group of books but in the same world, I cant wait for the rest of the story to be created.
This is like the other reviews that I have done the real review is really in the first book in the sequences for each group of them so go there and read that.
This being the last book in the sequence doesn't end in a cliff hanger so you can wait if you need and read the next sequence later.
This is again not really a review because the full review is in the first book int eh sequence, but this whole group of books has still stayed good all the way up to this point and to be honest at the end as well, or up to the 15th book as of this review that's all that's out now.
This is going to be a review of all 3 books in this sequence.
This story arc gets a little political but its part of the main story so you want to read them even if political stuff is something you hate.
This one takes place directly after the last sequence which is a little different than the other sequences of books, those usually had a good ending that you could just wait and read the next sequence later but this one is almost the same story a direct continuation.
The whole planet is all messed up and even the Human continent is having problems and really its up to Bren to get things fixed, he gets his own estate and everything.
I really love how this whole series of books has gone so far and although this is only a 4 star review that's because it was a little less exciting as the other sequences but its still great.
This is the end of this sequence and you get a sense of what is going to come next but if you really got this far you probably will go to the end of all the sequences, so I think these reviews are just to ensure you that it continues to stay good even at this point 9 books into it this set of books has gotten even better.
this is just sorta a mini review because the full review is in the first book of the sequence so go there and read that if you are reading this.
As these books are sorta 1 book per sequence just split up into 3 books they are sorta different but all end with cliff hangers so if you start a sequence you want to finish it.
This is the 3rd group of books and if you have gotten this far you will probably be continuing to the end of these books. As I have said in all of these reviews this is a review of the 3 books in the sequence since they all are really 1 book.
This is something you could have figured out was going to happen if you read the last set of books, they go to meet aliens that might or might not be hostile as they did probably attack the space station there then upon returning to the planet you are wondering what has happened and it plays out pretty nicely as things start getting taken back under control but there are all sorts of things going wrong.
These stories are great and they all take place in the same world but all the sequences are different sets of stories and you get the sense that they all could go on for different generations of the characters in there, I hope future books will do this.
This is the last book in the sequence but the story goes on and in the end you will see there is something going on on the planet that must be figured out.
These books have been going pretty good so far.
