If you have been checking my reviews then you know that there is a list of the correct order to read these books in, this is labeled as book 12 and that's actually where is belongs if you don't count "The Hero" because that's like way in the future but its labeled as book 5.
I have posted the order I think they should be read in before but here it is again, first names of the books titles only - "Hymn" "Gust" "Devil" "Hell" "Watch" "Yellow" "Tuloriad" "Cally" "Sister" "Honor" "Eye" and "Hero" - if/when the Author writes more books that take place in different places I will probably get them also and post another review with the updated order.
Now the review - it was good to see Michael O'Neal back in action again if only to be treated like crap at first, he goes on to be in charge of some really important stuff and he does a good job at it.
I was expecting to see more of the ACS here but you will find out soon that they are mostly destroyed which sucks but this book ends like there should be a few more right after this one ended, I hope that Ringo writes more of them because his work is just great only lacking in a few places but the greatness makes up for it with really funny parts that most Sci-Fi doesn't have a lot of - there is technical stuff also which is what makes things interesting, but comedy as well and that's what Ringo does best.
O'Neal is back with his daughters which is cool to see because the last time the 3 of them were together was when they were just kids like 3 and 6 years old and then there was the first 4 books if you read them then you know whats up with them not seeing each other.
This one is a must read if you are a fan of this series, The Watch on the Rhine and Yellow Eyes could be skipped but then The Tuloriad has some stuff in it you don't know about so I might have said in past reviews to skip "Watch" and "Yellow" but that's not the case now - they are slow but worth it, Yellow Eyes more so.
This is the last book in the series as of this review there could be more books the ending isnt left open it concludes but like the first 2 books it ends but then the next book there is much more story so I could see more be written although I didnt read anything saying there would be.
This time Frank has his Borg parts the arm and ear and he now works for his own detective agency with Sing and they both are happier this way, but then Nancy Frank's girlfriend gets abducted in some really high tech manner and there is no trace of her and Frank thinks he knows what they want from him and it turns out he's right but there is no way he can let them have it so now he must get her back.
Frank does some strange things and he blacks out at a few times and cant remember what happened and 1 time its pretty bad, he was blacking out or maybe someone was making him do this? he's not sure and neither are you until the ending which is pretty good.
The first book had a really bad narrator but that was sorta fixed with this one but it could be better so if you can deal with different narrators for the series then read these its worth it if you like these types of stories
The first book had a narrator that was totally crap and this one hes much better but still could be better with the different voices for each character, one of them Darwall Sing (spelling that wrong for sure) who is Asian he makes him sound a little like a person with a lisp but its ok.
The story in this book is pretty much the same but there is a family looking for there missing daughter and all sots of other strange things are happening that might be connected but its hard to tell.
This whole series was done pretty well and I would read more if there was any past the 3rd book but as of this review thats all there is.
This book has a really bad narrator he just doesent do any different voices for each character they all sound exactly the same and maybe thats why the next 2 books have a different narrator, but the story is pretty good so if you can stick with it do so.
This is the first book and there is some girl they cant identify who was found in a locked room alone and dead, Frank Steele is an old fashioned detective for the SDU which deals with cases no one else can solve or no one else wants to solve and things get more involved than he ever expected with strange murders and people that dont exist, it all goes pretty well and the next 2 books are just as good.
This whole series of books is good and this one starts the story off with the story that will follow the rest of the 2 books, they are different stories each but have to be read in order, there is an ending to each book but you know there is more to it there could be more books I guess there could be more after the 3rd book but so far there arent more
This being the last book at the time of this review (30 Dec 2014) that's out isn't really an ending to the series because like the other books it ends the current story arc but there could be more, I hope there is.
I said this in the first review I think but I have most all the books by John Ringo and I really wanted to get back into his type of writing so I just got book 1 and after a few hours of listening to it I decided I wanted the rest of the books so having 2 credits I bought book 2 and 3, then I got to the part in book 1 with the graphic sex and rape scenes and it went on for ever with really detailed descriptions and seeing as I am not wanking while listening to books this was strange and it was a man reading it so even stranger, I just wanted enough and decided to get my credits back for book 2 and 3 and I did - then I decided because of my OCD I would have to finish the book 1 and upon skipping over those scenes I decided I wanted to here more of the actual story and just skip over those parts, and it was great.
This book deals with computer boards that control nuclear power plants being stolen so that cant be good, you are going to know what to expect at this point in these books if you have read the first 5 books so the only thing to say is that this book wasn't as good as the ones before it but just a little less, I cant give it a half of star so it gets 4 not 4.5 - not sure what wasn't as good but just that it was something that I expected a little more of and it didn't deliver, maybe it was because there could be more books and if that's the case then this is OK not being great as it might fit in a larger group of books to complete the story.
So I would say that if you have read any of Ringo's other books and you like the writing style you will like these books, just maybe skip over the graphic sex/rape scenes which are really only in book 1 and 2, the rest its sorta lessened down.
The main action takes place in Disney World and at this point you know that the Kildar can take care of bad guys and likes his women (or teenagers sometimes) so this time he gets to do much of both.
Terrorists get some VX gas into the Disney World park and its up to Mike and his teams to stop it as usual.
I like how this story has gone so far, Mike or the "Kildar" as hes known now has become a cool character, although he does like to do some pretty questionable stuff he also saves people at his own risk even when its not part of the mission hes on so hes not that bad of a guy.
There are a few times when he tells someone hes not a good guy he just does good things from time to time and this might not be what most people think is good but at least hes doing good things.
The "Kildar" as Mike is called now really does live a good life, hes killed terrorists and rescued a whole bunch of young girls who were sold off as sex slaves even stopped a nuclear event or prevented it from being so bad and now he just wants to chill out but he keeps getting bothered by people.
This time the Kildar is trying to stop a new form of small pox from getting out and killing everyone, as you might expect he does some good killing here and his new teams are great.
I think if you have read this far just finish the series its only 2 more books as of this review (15 Dec 2014)
Trust me the next 2 books are just as good.
This is one that has much less graphic sex/rape scenes in it although there are ones with young virgin teenage girls but that's not bad because its not really rape and things are pretty different in those parts of the world.
This book follows the recovery of a missing daughter of some powerful political person in America but things take strange turns before the end of the book.
Mike has a whole militia now and they are trained better than most in the world and he takes them to Europe and does some killing, this whole series has been good so far and this book having much less of the graphic sex/rape stuff its much better.
There is a whole lot of turns in this story and it really does keep you guessing, I cant see a reason to stop if you have read this far and liked the story.
The first book had a graphic sex and rape scene in it and although the main character does some pretty bad things and thinks bad things also its not that bad, this one has a little scene about S&M and some young girls all over 18 maybe over 21 not sure, but again like the first book just skip this because the story is great.
Mike cant seem to get a brake here and every time he gets into the shit as it were he comes out pretty badly hurt but has lots of money to show for it, this time he decided to take a trip into the mountains and he ends up buying the whole place and spending some money to outfit a militia for his protection.
This whole series goes pretty well other than the graphic sex and rape scenes but those are almost gone by the 3rd book, although they are replaced with normal sex scenes not to much graphic much different though.
Again if you just skip over the graphic sex/rape scenes you should really like this whole series
Well I am sure you have read some of the reviews and some are 5 star and some are 1 star and talk about sex scenes and rape and both are right but its only the first book and second book that have this in it the others are really toned down like.
I got book 1 and like the other Ringo books I really liked it so I got the next 2 books then I got to this crazy sex scene stuff and was not liking it, I watch porn I just don't want to read or listen to some guy explain it in detail that sucked - so I decided to return book 2 and 3 which Audible did without problem.
However I decided I had to finish the book 1 because I already listened to so much at this point I didn't feel right returning it and I don't like leaving things unfinished, well I was glad I just skipped through that scene because the story got great and I was disappointed I returned the books so I re-bought them even though I just returned them a few days before.
I must say other than that 1 part in this book it is great, its not that its bad it just is that a man is telling me it, maybe if it were a sexy woman it would be different but I don't like women narrators much unless its one of those ones with a different person for each character.
give this a try anf just skip over that part, you will know when you get to it and its not that long, the second book has another one but not so much.
This is the last book in this sequence and really at this time 30 Oct 2014 this is the last book in this whole series of books but more are being created now so if like me you really liked these books you want more but after reading these books for like 9 months I want to take a break so I a few years I hope a few more sequences are released and I can get back into this.
This whole series was great, a few of the books were a little better then the others otherwise it would have been a 5 star across the board.
The narrator was simply great, he did a great job at the different voices with exception of maybe a few that I thought was someone else - like Brens Brother and some guy from the state department, the voices sound pretty much the same but I guess this can happen in real life and there are only so many voices one can do and there were lots of characters in this whole series so the narrator did a great job, 5 star for sure.
