This was the only book we have purchased that we both didn't enjoy. We like a great plot when driving & this was just a boring diary!

    Story

Most mystery stories focus on the particulars of a "typical" crime such as murder. Killing Floor is a double mystery - one being "who done it", the second being what is it they did? The combination of the two makes for a very interesting story line and keeps the reader guessing who the bad guys really are. The author does a good job of describing how the crime was committed, educating the listener without boring them. The narration is clear and easy to listen to.

In 1993, Marie Gesto disappeared after walking out of a supermarket. Harry Bosch worked the case but couldn't crack it, and the 22-year-old was never found. Now, more than a decade later, with the Gesto file still on his desk, Bosch gets a call from the district attorney. A man accused of two heinous murders is willing to come clean about several others, including the killing of Marie Gesto.

    Story

Echo Park is a well constructed, good old detective story. The plot line follows in a logical sequence as the mystery unfolds with the discovery of additional evidence/information. The characters are all completely believable; no "superman", just an experienced detective relying on the tools available to him and interfacing with regular people living their lives. The narrator does a good job of changing inflections and tone to fit the character who is speaking at the moment. The narrator's voice is easy to listen to and his pronunciation is very clear. Even though this is book twelve in the character's series, there is no difficulty in following the story development without having read the previous books in the series.

High in the Andes, Dr. Henry Conklin discovers a 500-year-old mummy that should not be there. While deep in the South American jungle, Conklin's nephew, Sam, stumbles upon a remarkable site nestled between two towering peaks, a place hidden from human eyes for thousands of years. Ingenious traps have been laid to ensnare the careless and unsuspecting, and wealth beyond imagining could be the reward for those with the courage to face the terrible unknown.

Xavier says: "Great blend of history and science"
    "Fast Paced Thriller"

    Story

Fast paced; action is continuous. There are essentially two main characters; when the action relative to one of the characters lessens, the author "switches" to the other character so that things are always at a fever pitch. Although this may seem confusing, the author has defined the relationship between the two such that the switching between characters develops the overall plot without being contrived. Interest remains peaked as the two lead characters work towards a single resolution of the story. The only negative about the book is that the relationship between the male lead characters and their respective female love interests is trite and predictable.

Virgil Flowers kicked around for a while before joining the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. First it was the army and the military police, then the police in St. Paul, and finally Lucas Davenport brought him into the BCA, promising him, "We'll only give you the hard stuff." He's been doing the hard stuff for three years now, but never anything like this.

    Story

This is an excellent book. The story is good; the characters are well developed and the plot progresses at a good pace. What really makes this book "a must" is the narration. The narrator's voice is highly "listenable" and he does a superb job of adapting his tone and inflections to differentiate the various characters. Overall, the story keeps the listener engaged and eager for the next chapter.

    Story

The story is good, but a little dated due to the rapid pace of technology. The characters are well developed and believable and, in typical John Sanford style, come up with vivid descriptors and comments on the action. My wife and I found the narrator's voice to be less than enjoyable to listen to and his attempt at different character's voices is lacking. However, despite this, we both greatly enjoyed the book.
