Made even better as I watched Zero Dark Thirty about halfway through the listening of this book. I am fascinated by the events that unfolded after 9/11 and anything in the spy world. I really enjoyed it even if it isn't the greatest story or narration ever. If you're not a spy nut, you may not enjoy it, but if you are, it's one you will like.
Brandon Webb tells a great story. His intro to each chapter, while often redundant, is a really neat enhancement to the audio version of the book. The narration leaves a lot to be desired. It is rushed and I often found myself wondering if the guy ever breathes. I listened to the whole book because it was a great story, but I will not purchase this narrator again.
I'm a computer geek and I grew up about the same time as Mitnick - dreaming of the things Mitnick was doing. Great suspense and quality narration. If you aren't a geek/nerd, you may not enjoy it, but if you are, you will find yourself dreaming of the life of a cutting edge hacker, steps ahead of the authorities, you'll like it.
I have tried a number of times expose myself to old classics. You know, the books we were supposed to read in high school English but didn't! Tim Robbin's reading of The Great Gatsby is easily my most enjoyable consumption of a classic novel. I especially appreciated the voices and the reading of the letters from Fitzgerald at the end. Definitely worth listening to - especially with a new version of the movie coming out in May 2013!
I'm pretty tired of the amazing number of alien movies and books coming out these days. This one is a little older and I really enjoyed where it went. It certainly kept guessing as I did not really figure things out til pretty close to the end. If you enjoy sci-fi and the alien theme, you'll likely enjoy this book.
It's an interesting story, but it's more of a history of the Tampa Bay Rays than it is a book exposing strategies to help you find the extra 2%. Where Moneyball has great appeal to any baseball fan and even some who are not fans, The Extra 2% will really only appeal to fans of the Rays specifically.
Porter does an incredible job of delivering the life of Wasdin. I often forgot it wasn't actually Wasdin's voice I was hearing. His accents are effective.
The overall story is incredible. This man has literally risked life and limb, not just for our country, but for complete strangers in foreign lands. Hearing about the exploits of Howard Wasdin makes me want to go and sign up to join the military. If I wasn't 36, I might just do it! Instead, I might choose to be chiropractor.
You will not regret your investment in this book!
