I always enjoy Rick Riordan's wonderful books, but sadly this one is being read by just terrible readers. Bizarrely the Carter character, an African American teen who likes girls, is being read by an actor who sounds white and gay. The Sadie character is done by an actress with an unpleasantly shrill voice, who sounds hysterical for no apparent reason much of the time.
This is the second Rick Riordan series I've listened to that has been nearly ruined by bad reading. These are very popular books from a best-selling author, and I don't see why it wasn't considered worth it to find readers with more appropriate voices who read as though they understand the sense of the words.
This is my first Reacher, and I'm addicted! I thought the story moved along at a great pace, and had lots of surprises.
Although I enjoy the Dresden series as a rule, this book left me cold. In Harry's battles with the werewolves, I felt that nearly the same scenario was being repeated over and over again. I lost interest in the outcome by a quarter of the way through, and only slogged on from stubbornness and the hope that something new and surprising would happen. Very disappointing.
