  • Fury of Seduction: Dragonfury, Book 3

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 6 mins)
    • By Coreene Callahan
    • Narrated By Benjamin L. Darcie
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

New to the Nightfury pack, dragon-shifter Mac cannot understand the bond between his brothers-in-arms and their human mates - until the moment he spies Tania and the energy bond between them blazes to life. Driven by a primal instinct, Mac will stop at nothing to find Tania, to keep her safe, to possess her. He has no time to waste: Ivar, leader of the rival Razorbacks, hunts her, hungry for a new high-energy pawn with which to destroy the human race. Caught between the warring factions, Tania finds herself immersed in a world she never knew existed - and bound by a love stronger than time.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

First chapters have too much redundant filler fluff. Basic story was good. Male characters interesting tho the tough guy dialogue is overdone and becomes juvenile, not macho). The main female character is just Too Stupid To Live - but, of course, she does. The things the author has her think and do were just ridiculous to the point that had this been a hard copy I'd have thrown it at a wall. The author intended to make the character seem overwhelmed with love and concern, but the reasoning given for the characters actions were totally vapid. Ugh! I'm a woman and I hate it when an author has the female character act like a total idiot. The book seemed like the author threw it together and rushed the ending.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Just listened to "The Scottish Prisoner," and liked it more than I had thought I would since it was an offshoot of the main Outlander stories so I think I'll pick up another of Gabaldon's "Lord John" stories. I've read all the Outlander series so I knew the basic story in which it took place (Need to have read the first two "Outlander" books to fully appreciate).

What about Benjamin L. Darcie’s performance did you like?

Did a good job differentiating character voices and his pace and expression were perfect.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    Any additional comments?

I read the first two of this series and they were better by far than this latest book.

  • Strangers

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 48 mins)
    • By Barbara Elsborg
    • Narrated By Tillie Hooper
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Kate Snow's had enough of bad boys until a one-way swim in the ocean puts her on a collision course with a man she can’t resist. Charlie Storm has turned being a bad boy into an art form. Already a famous pop star, mega-success in the movie business beckons until his inner demons send him spiraling out of control and right out to sea. The last thing he expects to do before he dies is crash into a suicidal woman. When the worlds of these two strangers collide, their lives take an upward twist.

Jordy says: "Barbara Elsborg takes erotica to another level!"
"Best written and narrated romance I've read lately"
Would you listen to Strangers again? Why?

Refreshing "hot" sensual romance without the usual - excruciatingly weak and stupid or supposedly tough, independent stupid female described as intelligent then written to say and/or do ridiculously stupid things. I'm female and it annoys me that so many romance books written by women portray their heroines as such vapid creatures.

The characters in Strangers were intelligent and believable. The author created two awesome people both of whom are broken in different ways. The dialogue is very sharp and witty in parts and breathtakingly bittersweet in parts.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Strangers?

The dialogue between Charlie and Kate during their chance meeting in the sea is my favorite part.

Unfortunately, the moment that struck hardest emotionally and thus most memorable is when Kate uses the key card provided her by Charlie's agent.

Have you listened to any of Tilly Hooper’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, none of which I'm aware. I think Ms. Hooter did a great job with narrating the different characters both male and female. I could easily discern each character. I think she's a great narrator.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

  • Forbidden Pleasure

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 2 mins)
    • By Lora Leigh
    • Narrated By Clare Claremont
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

People have heard of fleeting rumors about The Club. Located just outside Washington, D.C., only its members know where men go when they want to indulge the desire to share their women with a carefully selected male partner. John “Mac” McCoy resigned his membership from The Club when he married Keiley Hardin. Tempting and innocent, sweet and sexy, she would never accept Mac’s desire to share her with another man. However, Mac’s fantasies of sharing his wife haunt his dreams.

Katheryne says: "Another Menage story....I need a cold shower."
    "Very Hot!"
Would you listen to Forbidden Pleasure again? Why?

What did you like best about this story?

Very steamy and sexy male characters.

Have you listened to any of Clare Claremont’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Not that I'm aware. I'm from the Deep South and have lived in or known people from almost every state south of the Mason-Dixon line and Ms. Claremont's portrayal of the southern accent was awful for most of the characters.

  • The Scottish Prisoner

    • UNABRIDGED (15 hrs and 52 mins)
    • By Diana Gabaldon
    • Narrated By Jeff Woodman, Rick Holmes
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Winner of the Quill Award and the Corine International Book Prize, Diana Gabaldon is the #1 New York Times best-selling author of the Outlander series. This fourth novel featuring popular character Lord John Grey is told both from Lord Grey’s perspective and from that of Jamie Fraser, the star of the Outlander series.

Teahouse Fox says: "Lord John 'Quixote' rides again"
    "Very Enjoyable!!"
What did you love best about The Scottish Prisoner?

The characters and their actions are intelligent and well thought out. The overall story captivated me. Despite the fact the story is a serious mystery, there were parts that made me laugh aloud. Others that made me giggle. The dialogue is witty and intriguing.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Scottish Prisoner?

Where Jamie calls Lord Grey by his Christian name, "John." The interaction between Jamie and Lord John before the dual where Jamie makes it clear to Lord John that he respects him and reconfirms their friendship.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Enjoyed the entire book. Couldn't stop listening

    Any additional comments?

Readers will enjoy this more if they have read at least the first two Outlander novels.

  • A Discovery of Witches

    • UNABRIDGED (24 hrs and 2 mins)
    • By Deborah Harkness
    • Narrated By Jennifer Ikeda

Deep in the stacks of Oxford's Bodleian Library, young scholar Diana Bishop unwittingly calls up a bewitched alchemical manuscript in the course of her research. Descended from an old and distinguished line of witches, Diana wants nothing to do with sorcery; so after a furtive glance and a few notes, she banishes the book to the stacks. But her discovery sets a fantastical underworld stirring, and a horde of daemons, witches, and vampires soon descends upon the library.

    Tim says: "True Blood PG13"
    "Very Good Book, EXCELLENT NARRATOR!!"

I rarely write reviews, but I feel I compelled to comment on how thoroughly I enjoyed this book... I couldn't stop listening! I usually avoid fantasy books involving witchcraft and the fae simply because I find I grow bored with all the terminology and spell-weaving... so often it overshadows the actual storyline. While there were spells and the nature of the fae involved defined, everything was explained just enough to be clear but not enough to become tedious.

There was humor without excessive stupidity (always such a relief!), action, attention to detail (but not obsessive), a bit of sorrow and much anticipation. The author took me from interest to laughter to interest to edge of my seat "no, no, oh... please NO!!" and back again. I am hooked and will DEFINITELY pounce upon the sequels (I liked the book enough to do some research of my own and have found that Ms. Harkness is planning a trilogy) as soon as they are published.

I prefer to listen to books so that I can accomplish mindless tasks around the home while doing something useful ("reading" being the useful task!) and I would like to say that Jennifer Ikeda is one of, if not the best, narrators I've yet to enjoy (and I listen to many, many audiobooks). I had no trouble separating the characters just by the "voices" ... I had absolutely no difficulty keeping up with what voice was supposed to be whom.

I look forward to the sequels.

  • Halfway to the Grave: Night Huntress, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 17 mins)
    • By Jeaniene Frost
    • Narrated By Tavia Gilbert
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father—the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unlikely partnership. In exchange for help finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner…are there actually good vampires?

Stephenie says: "Great series. Worth every credit."
"At last, an excellent vampire romance with a plot!"

Just when I had almost given up hope... I stumbled upon this writer. I was thoroughly impressed and enthralled by the two main characters. I just wish Audible had the other 3 Night Huntress Books for me to listen to because I don't want to ruin the story for myself by starting the Night Huntress World series (which Audible does have!) before I have finish this series. Thank you to the reviewer who divulged this piece of info that thankfully I read...

    Great Book!

  • Legacy: Anna Strong, Vampire, Book 4

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 40 mins)
    • By Jeanne C. Stein
    • Narrated By Dina Pearlman
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Anna has struggled to adapt to her supernatural status while clinging to the vestiges of her humanity. Now she must deal with her legacy. The sinister vampire who transformed her is dead, and Anna is entitled to his vast fortune. But a predatory werewolf comes forward, claiming the inheritance as her own. And she'll kill to get what she wants most: blood and money.

Joan says: "One Word! Fantastic series!"
    "Legacy ... ??"

Not as good as previous books in series. Short for one thing... although that isn't necessarily a bad thing in this case as the story was bordering on boring...

  • Danse Macabre: Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, Book 14

    • UNABRIDGED (21 hrs and 29 mins)
    • By Laurell K. Hamilton
    • Narrated By Cynthia Holloway
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Anita Blake needs to be concentrating on a dangerous situation: The ardeur, the sexual power that flows between Anita and Jean-Claude, Master Vampire of the City, and Richard, the volatile werewolf who loves her passionately, is reaching new levels, perhaps evolving into something altogether new. The ardeur seems to be choosing new lovers for Anita, acting with a will of its own. As Jean-Claude says, the ardeur is hunting powerful prey.

This has to be one of the most stupid books I have ever attempted to read... what a waste of money.
