"Female Character TSTL"
First chapters have too much redundant filler fluff. Basic story was good. Male characters interesting tho the tough guy dialogue is overdone and becomes juvenile, not macho). The main female character is just Too Stupid To Live - but, of course, she does. The things the author has her think and do were just ridiculous to the point that had this been a hard copy I'd have thrown it at a wall. The author intended to make the character seem overwhelmed with love and concern, but the reasoning given for the characters actions were totally vapid. Ugh! I'm a woman and I hate it when an author has the female character act like a total idiot. The book seemed like the author threw it together and rushed the ending.
Just listened to "The Scottish Prisoner," and liked it more than I had thought I would since it was an offshoot of the main Outlander stories so I think I'll pick up another of Gabaldon's "Lord John" stories. I've read all the Outlander series so I knew the basic story in which it took place (Need to have read the first two "Outlander" books to fully appreciate).
Did a good job differentiating character voices and his pace and expression were perfect.
No.
I read the first two of this series and they were better by far than this latest book.
"Different Twist"
Very unusual twist on vampireorigins as well as a sweet love story.
Damien. The way he chose to protect the heroine.
The roses at the end.
Yes.
"Very Hot!"
Yes
Very steamy and sexy male characters.
Not that I'm aware. I'm from the Deep South and have lived in or known people from almost every state south of the Mason-Dixon line and Ms. Claremont's portrayal of the southern accent was awful for most of the characters.
Yes
"Very Enjoyable!!"
The characters and their actions are intelligent and well thought out. The overall story captivated me. Despite the fact the story is a serious mystery, there were parts that made me laugh aloud. Others that made me giggle. The dialogue is witty and intriguing.
Where Jamie calls Lord Grey by his Christian name, "John." The interaction between Jamie and Lord John before the dual where Jamie makes it clear to Lord John that he respects him and reconfirms their friendship.
Enjoyed the entire book. Couldn't stop listening
Readers will enjoy this more if they have read at least the first two Outlander novels.
"Very Good Book, EXCELLENT NARRATOR!!"
I rarely write reviews, but I feel I compelled to comment on how thoroughly I enjoyed this book... I couldn't stop listening! I usually avoid fantasy books involving witchcraft and the fae simply because I find I grow bored with all the terminology and spell-weaving... so often it overshadows the actual storyline. While there were spells and the nature of the fae involved defined, everything was explained just enough to be clear but not enough to become tedious.
There was humor without excessive stupidity (always such a relief!), action, attention to detail (but not obsessive), a bit of sorrow and much anticipation. The author took me from interest to laughter to interest to edge of my seat "no, no, oh... please NO!!" and back again. I am hooked and will DEFINITELY pounce upon the sequels (I liked the book enough to do some research of my own and have found that Ms. Harkness is planning a trilogy) as soon as they are published.
I prefer to listen to books so that I can accomplish mindless tasks around the home while doing something useful ("reading" being the useful task!) and I would like to say that Jennifer Ikeda is one of, if not the best, narrators I've yet to enjoy (and I listen to many, many audiobooks). I had no trouble separating the characters just by the "voices" ... I had absolutely no difficulty keeping up with what voice was supposed to be whom.
I look forward to the sequels.
"At last, an excellent vampire romance with a plot!"
Just when I had almost given up hope... I stumbled upon this writer. I was thoroughly impressed and enthralled by the two main characters. I just wish Audible had the other 3 Night Huntress Books for me to listen to because I don't want to ruin the story for myself by starting the Night Huntress World series (which Audible does have!) before I have finish this series. Thank you to the reviewer who divulged this piece of info that thankfully I read...
Great Book!
"Legacy ... ??"
Not as good as previous books in series. Short for one thing... although that isn't necessarily a bad thing in this case as the story was bordering on boring...
"Danse Idiotica"
This has to be one of the most stupid books I have ever attempted to read... what a waste of money.
