I originally read Fatherland, watched the movie and was excited to listen to it on Audible. The alternative history is so interesting and is a great backdrop for the murder mystery that is centerpiece of the story. If you like thrillers or murder mysteries, then give this book a try!
In fact, his name is never mentioned although I'm pretty certain he is the President that some refer to in the book. I thought this would be along the lines of Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp series but it's not as action packed, which probably means that it is more realistic. I appreciate the story that Tom Clancy likes to put in his books but I really think he could condense the story to make it more tension filled and less to weed through. It all comes together in the end but it's a long path to get there.
I loved Jaws so I thought I would like this one just as much. I didn't but Jaws is one of the best books I've ever listened to so this had a lot to live up to. The Deep isn't bad per se but I just had higher hopes for it.
Book 3 missed the mark for me but Book 4 in the Iron Druid Chronicles is back to good form. There's a lot of fun in this book!
and finished pretty strong but it got slow in the middle. I would recommend it though to anyone that likes adventure books.
I had held off listening to this book because I thought I would have to struggle to listen to it. Well, I was wrong! This book was thrilling all the way through and I was sad when it ended. It's a great take on the zombie formula and I could easily see this become a movie.
I love the Jack Ryan series. I've read this book, seen the movie (obviously) and now have listened to it on audio. This book is so good. If you like it, you must then get Patriot Games because it is even better!
If you like the Alex Cross series, then you will like this. Just make sure you read the series in order.
Vince Flynn bounced back with this one. Not sure why but it seemed like the writing about Mike Nash and family was handled a little better in this one. Wonder if he was planning a spin-off series for Mike Nash? Either way, this book flowed much better than the previous one.
The sudden introduction of Mike Nash and focus on he and his family did not land on me well. I don't think Vince Flynn knows how to write about women and family life very well. I usually like the Mitch Rapp books but the focus on Mike Nash in this turned me off.
I do not like abridged books. I don't think I realized this was when I got it but I still gave it a try. It wasn't great. It would be a good book if it wasn't abridged so if you like the Brad Thor series or books in this vein (Vince Flynn, etc), you should find the unabridged book and give it a try.
