I am not sure what I expected but this was a fun listen and at times laugh out loud unexpectedly funny. The narration added a great deal to what otherwise might have been a disjointed "memoir". Somehow her voice and tempo made the transitions easier. I always enjoy hearing words that I know I don't know how to pronouce...half of the food consumed in this book met that definition.

I enjoy listening to series so that the characters can develop over the books. I have enjoyed all of the Mercy Thompson books, and this one is my favorite. The relationship development between Mercy and the pack members was interesting as well as Samuel's relationship development! Lorlei King is the perfect narrator for this series. Her voice changes so much that I never have trouble knowing which character is speaking.

I haven't read a lot of OSC in recent years, but was tempted to try him again by the price and the reviews. It was wonderful!!!! I have listened to it almost non-stop. It reminded me of reading the book "Wicked" in that OSC takes a very well known tale and tells it with a new twist and details while remaining true to the story - in this case Sleeping Beauty. The story is fun, if predictable at times (yeah we all know the story). I enjoyed the tongue in cheek humor while the characters are well developed. The narrators are excellent. They give the emotional content of the words the right weight and help maintain the tempo of the story. I think that due to their skill I enjoyed the text more than I would have reading the words.

This book is a great listen for any dog lover. I think my canine kids provided some of the material! It is touching and funny just like our dogs - at times I cried and other times I laughed out loud. The story twists and turns enough to keep you interested yet it never loses its focus of a dog's world as we humans can only imagine it.

I downloaded this book just as my mother passed away. It was a great escape from the challenges I was facing as we said goodbye to a wonderful Southern lady.
While, the story line is straighforward, the characters are fun to meet and get to know. I live in a rural area (10 miles from the nearest gas station, and 15 miles from the nearest grocery store). Carr does a great job of highlighting the trade offs between the advantages of the 'boonies' and the logistical nightmare it can be at times.
Another bonus of this book was the romance scenes. I find some romance 'bedroom scenes' hard to listen to. The author and the narrator both did a great job of communicating the situation without my feeling like I'd been connected to "1-800-phone-sex"
I'm headed to the second book - can't wait to learn more about "Preacher"

When my Book Club (the vast majority of us are 50+) picked this book, I didn't know anything about it. I was a little dismayed when I saw it was classified as Young Adults and even more so when I read the summary. My fears were ungrounded.
What a great listen! The premise is a little 'dark' and certainly there is a fair amount of violence, but I really enjoyed the characterization of the districts and the tributes. Plus the plot never went quite like I was expecting...
The narrator does an excellent job of keeping all the players distinct in the narration. I understand there is a sequel and look forward to it

The book was well written, narrated, and absolutely inspiring without being maudlin or sugery sweet. These are real people (and horses) that I liked a lot and wish well. The descriptions of Siberia and Mongolia helped me feel like I was seeing it with my own eyes.
I have volunteered with a NARHA equestrian program (form of therapy on horseback) which made the story even better and am delighted that some of the proceeds will go to the equestrian therapy program started by Rupert. Yes I listened all the way through to every word - even the acknowledgements were fascinating.
This is the 2nd audio book read by the author that I felt made it a better (rather than worse) experience.

What a wonderful listen! I normally avoid books that are narrated by the author, but I enjoyed listening to Dr. Smith's inflecitons...and reading between the lines. My only regret is that it wasn't longer.

I enjoyed the pace of the book - it was never dull even when describing the astrophysics involved. I like the fact that the future was familiar and strange at the same time. I listen during my daily commute and always know an audiobook is a winner when I start slowing down as I get closer to work/home so I can listen a few extra minutes. I found myself doing that every day I listened to this one

This book is like a bowl of wonderful homemade vegetable soup on a cold winter day. A little predictable but warms you from head to toe!
The narration was excellent and easy on the ears. I enjoyed the musical notes between chapters.
The shift between periods and locations was handled nicely. There is enough subtle orientation so that you easily remember what was happening when you were last in this time and place.
