"Good!"
A helpful retelling of the important forces and events in Lincoln's life. Artfully portrays Lincoln's true genius as a leader--more so that other biographers. A good reading, also. Thank you!
"Not good story"
Though I liked Herrman's reading (as I always do), the story left much to be desired. It seemingly had no point other than a vacuous notion of one of the disappointments of youth.
"Excellent!"
An excellent story! Engaging. Martin offers a stimulating method of narrative--having us see the events unfold through the eyes of the different characters. The reading is very good; however, it seemed as if the reader, at first, was out of breath often. This got better as the reading progressed.
"Great reading, but ...."
This is a wonderful book, well researched by the renowned Stephen Ambrose. The reading or audio performance was outstanding--perfectly suited to the story--quiet, reflective, subtle. However, the content of the book was frequently redundant (as I have found in other Ambrose works) as the author repeats facts and points many times. I like Ambrose and his work--it is well researched and interesting. Moreover, Ambrose often makes salient observations that are historically significant in and of themselves. I just wish that he had written better.
"Superb!"
A great classic with much wisdom regarding passion, religious fervor, prejudice, racism, and other issues. Well read, also.
"Wonderful!"
Excellent telling of Monroe's story! The author offers great background material. The book is well read.
"Helpful!"
Meacham offers an excellent and accurate and balanced story of religion in America. He offers a true account of how the two forces of faith and politics danced with one another in the history of the nation. Thank God we have good historians like Meacham!
"Simply GREAT!"
Hillenbrand's story-telling continues to be cogent, spell-binding, and riveting. I kept wondering what was going to happen to Louie next--would he live or would he die--even though I knew that he would survive. She is superb in her art of recreating tension and offering emotion in the simple telling of the story. Herrman's artful reading is "right on" to convey the simplicity and complexity of the tale. A great product! Thanks.
"FABULOUS!"
Excellent novel of the landscape of small town America. Berry's writing is wonderfully rich, poetic, and "on target." The way he conveys meaning and emotion is palpably great. The reader is absolutely "pitch perfect" for the novel!
"Good narrative, uneven ending"
Mitchell begins well and tells a spell-binding tale of multiple characters. The twists and turns of the plot are excellent. Then, it seems as if he lets the readers down with an ending that is somewhat meaningless. Still, overall, a good read.
