I felt like I was listening to Casey Kasem's daughter retell someone's "heartbreaking or heartwarming" story in between the top 40 hits of the week, For the ENTIRE Book. This is an erotic romance- the narrator should NOT sound the same when describing what is happening to her "nether regions" and HOW it feels as she sounds when talking aout painting her den and eating pizza with the kid next door. Her voice (speed, inflection, tone, etc) should NOT sound the exact same throughout. She sounded so detached at moments when she WASN'T supposed to be detached. I wished I had the book to read along with, because it was very hard to get past the narration to be able to just focus on the story.
I think Elenna Stauffer is probably a very good narrator, but just NOT for this genre.
Pia - love her! Her personality, quickness, funny, self-deprecating at times without being whiney or annoying. But she's also strong and independent - she knows she has her weaknesses but she also recognizes her strengths. There is no passive aggressiveness or self-sabotaging. She speaks her mind without being overly aggressive or stubborn. She comes across as a normal person. She has felt pain and loss but she's not "overly damaged with tons of baggage" that she just can't get past in order to function in normal society - she's just beautifully normal...well, considering who/what she is. Her inner dialogue is so funny but so relatable.
I really enjoyed this book a lot and I cannot wait to start the next in the series. It moves sooo quickly. The story line is so great and the characters are all laid out well. Not overly descriptive about un-important or secondary things (i.e 3 pages explaining the perfect sunset, or what the perfect wine tastes like). It was juuuust right. The sex scenes get 2 thumbs up!! Not too much "ridiculous-romantic-doey-eyed" garb. Not too little, i.e the dreaded "2-paragraph-skim-over-the-details-and-get-to-the-spooning-after-glow" let down. No crazy stuff, i.e. "is-that-even-physically-possible-sex-stunts" , "Huh?-seems-like-a-REALLY-odd-time-and-place-to-get-freaky" or "how-do-they-have-enough-fluids-left-in-their-bodies" moments. It was juuuust right. Great beginning to this series - I can't wait to see how the rest turn out.
Soooo glad my mom has the whole series already on her nook and that im not reading these as they are just coming out - i would lose it not being able to jump straight to the next one. Ready for some relationships to HAPPEN.
Top of the list - I bought this book and the next one to read at night and the audio to listen to during the day, and I ended up listening to the whole darn thing! Jill Redfield did such a superb job with all the voices,, and portraying their emotions just right. It didn't sound like she was just reading a script and switching her pitch for diff characters.
One of the best I've ever listened to!! The narrator, Kevin T. Collins, did a flawless job. His character as well as all the other male AND female voices flowed beautifully. I borrowed the book and was reading at night and listening during the day, and I found that I enjoyed listening so much more. Not only is Kevin so good with ALL the voices (incredible really) there are also "sound effects" throughout the audiobook that make the listening experience so much harder to "put down". My kids would wander in while I was doing laundry and absently mindedly sit down and listen for a bit at times.
EVERYTHING! He is so good at this - MUCH better than some others I have listened to! He was a perfect match for this series.
The2 narrators (female and male) were AMAZING - with this one I enjoyed listening (like listening to a radio program with sound effects and all!) more than reading it myself. I actually have the written books on my nook, but I waste too much time sitting and reading (and not doing other things, like taking care of my children....and the house.... and doing my work....;-) so, I listen instead. Loved the narrators and the storyline was quick and witty as always.
