In Sandman Slim Stark came back from hell for revenge. Once again all is not right in L.A. Lucifer is back in Heaven, God is on vacation, and an insane killer mounts a war against both Heaven and Hell. Stark’s got to head back down to his old stomping grounds in Hell to rescue his long lost love, stop an insane serial killer, prevent both Good and Evil from completely destroying each other, and stop the demonic Kissi from ruining the party for everyone. Even for Sandman Slim, that’s a tall order. And it’s only the beginning.

I waslooking for a new author, so based on the reviews of the book, i got Aloha from Hell.
I was pleasantly surprised and vastly entertained!

I particularly liked the "kick-ass" attitude of the characters, as well as the blurring of lines between good and evil (definitely refreshing!) and the moderate-to-fast pace of the dialogue.
Can't wait to get my hand on the next one in the series!

I read 'redemption in indigo' sometime back and was captivated by Lord's writing style and Miles's narration. So when I came across this book, I was really looking forward to listening and even bought the book before I read the reviews. After reading some of the reviews, I must admit to being put off, but, I went back and listened to redemption in indigo, to remind myself why I liked Lord's unique narrative style and vivid imagination and plucked the courage to dive into this one.
Let's just say - wow! Definitely ranks in with the "unputdowenable"s" for me.

The world created for her characters, the style, the depiction, the mental stimulation - just does it for me. While I do enjoy all manner of romance, sci-fi, fantasy etc, I really enjoyed this unique take on romance that doesn't have to get bawdy (although nothing against a good dash of bawdiness!) and yet, delivers more with a look and a touch, that convey so much more! The narrator (Miles) did a really bang up job of portraying the characters truly.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out Lord herself is a descendant of some "Tishune" herself!
Really masterful story crafting and weaving. Can't wait for her next one!

Lauren is downtown Chicago's youngest elite realtor. She's also a witch. She must be - the fetching spell for Witches' Chat isn't supposed to make mistakes. So says the woman who coded the spell, at least. The tall, dark, and handsome guy sent to assess her is a witch too (and no, that doesn't end the way you might think). What he finds in Lauren will change lives, mess with a perfectly good career, and require lots of ice cream therapy.

I just finished listening to the book and i must say - oh wow!!
At first, it was quite slow and a bit...mundane? then the pace picked up and the storyline got more interesting. The last few chapters were 'unputdownable' for me (so much so, i skipped a cocktail party just to stay in and finish!)
The characters were a bit confusing at first and perhaps even a little staid, but as the story gained momentum, they sparked to life, and had you waiting to see what the next twist would be - kept getting a curveball!
I definitely recommend the book - it's romantic without being too sweet, has alot of fun moments (I especially like the character of Irvine - boy witch genius). It's a light read without being fluffy and puts a warm glow in your heart (without being syrupy mind you!).
The narrator was great and I loved the different voices she portrayed for the various characters. definitely moving on to book 2 now....

Within the heart of the Demon War nothing can be taken for granted as it sends the destinies of those involved into a most dangerous and seductive form of chaos. One man finds out that strangers can collide in the dark for a moment of blinding passion, only to be separated by the cold hand of fate without even a name to help in his hunt for her. Another man will find that when the Shadow of Death becomes a stalker, the most seductive of enemies can quickly become his strongest ally...even if it's against his will.

when i first started reading the series, i was always looking forward to the next installment, but now, it is starting to get a bit......predictable i guess. one gets the feeling there is ALWAYS going to be a next installment!
Despite being a fan of sagas etc, i realise this series might be over for me, especially when i strated getting confused about characters' names and how they are relevant to the current tale - way too many characters!
K.B.Stanford's voice is another issue - quite annoying to be honest - but it's saying something when i tell you it's not the worst i've come across on audible - to put it bluntly, it's bad, but not so bad you need to talk yourself into having the courage to continue with the book.
All in all, still a good read.

"My name is Mike Ross and I'm a Ferryman - like in the Greek myth. I didn't ask for, or really want, the job, but I'm trying to make the best of it. Most ghosts are okay and just need a little help to get where they need to go. Unfortunately, there are lots of exceptions, like power-mad psychopaths, spirits still trying to fight battles long since lost, and the worst of the lot - the Skinwalkers. They live vicariously by possessing people and controlling them like puppet masters. Then they toss them aside when they've outlived their usefulness."

I've just converted to the Jim Bernheimer religion!! the book is funny, fast-paced and a breath of fresh air.
I took a gamble some months back and decided to read "confessions of a d-list supervillain" (Another book by Jim Bernheimer) and was amzazed at how much i liked it. i decided to read another one - although i purchased 'pennies for the ferryman', i still havent read it (in fact, i forgot it was in my library until a few minutes ago when i tried to purchase it!!)
i ended up getting the 'skinwalker conspiracies' some days ago, because of the reviews i read about it. all i can say is "a big fat thank you" to those who reviewed it, seeing as it was defintely worth the sleepless night and the loud (crazy woman) sudden bursts of laughter at the office today!
I certainly can't way to acquaint myself with the first book!!

any ideas when book 3 might be coming out? I'll take a day off work, just so i can read it!!

I'm not particularly a fan of this genre (drama??), but once in a while, i let myself get out of my reading comfort-zone, so i took a gamble with this book.
The blurb hooked me into buying the book (I must confess I didn't actually read the reviews, just saw the ratings) and at first, i was really dubious about being able to finish the whole book!
the best comparison i have for this book is: it's like slow-braised lamb - takes hours and hours to really get cooking, but well worth the wait. If you're a fan of flash-in-the-pan stirfry sizzle, it might not be your cup of tea, but as i said at the start, well-worth the wait...

Against my better judgement, i got book 2 of the series (the reviews for book 1 were not very encouraging). I very quickly realised i couldn't make head or tail of book 2 without reading (hearing) book 1, so i got "Embrace".
Let me just say i've suffered through the book as best as i can. the general storyline is actually quite good, but i get the feeling the characters aren't quite sure whether they're adults or teens!!
Maybe it's the actual performance - doubt it very much though - but i just couldn't bear the "whininess" of Violet's character, or the hedonistic teenage rebelliousness. It's so obvious a mile away that certain actions would result in obvious events and i guess for me, it's the predictability of those moments in the book that killed the buzz for me.
The last straw was when i found myself cringing during certain scenes and actually covering my ears with my hands, so i wouldn't be subjected to the epic cringe-worthiness of said lead character.
My advice: get another book - i still have to gird my loins to go through book 2 and i don't think i can survive the experience!

The storyline is quite interesting enough. I got a bit miffed with Annana's character though - there's something annoying about a character that persistently asks stupid questions and does really stupid things, runs around screaming when something happens and acts like a petulant child.
She does redeem herself with bravery and the occasional bout of intelligence though....all in all, an okay story and a very good performance.
couldn't make up my mind whether it should have been a teen story or a young adults novel though........

In a city of daimons, rigid class lines separate the powerful from the power-hungry. And at the heart of The City is the Carnival of Souls, where both murder and pleasure are offered up for sale. Once in a generation, the carnival hosts a deadly competition that allows every daimon a chance to join the ruling elite. Without the competition, Aya and Kaleb would both face bleak futures - if for different reasons. For each of them, fighting to the death is the only way to try to live.
