In 2007, the Center for Automation in Nanobiotech (CAN) outlined the hardware and software platform that would one day allow robots smaller than human cells to make medical diagnoses, conduct repairs, and even self-propagate. In the same year, a simple pill, it had been discovered, could wipe out the memory of any traumatic event. At almost the same moment in humanity's broad history, mankind had discovered the means for bringing about its utter downfall - and the ability to forget it ever happened.

For Oxford student Kivrin, traveling back to the 14th century is more than the culmination of her studies - it's the chance for a wonderful adventure. For Dunworthy, her mentor, it is cause for intense worry about the thousands of things that could go wrong.

Would you ever listen to anything by Connie Willis again?

    I doubt it

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The story itself was interesting, but the writing was slow and some of the characters repeated things so often it was annoying. A futuristic time when people can travel back to a time as a historian is an interesting idea. the narration did match the pace of the story. the story just didn't grab my interest until almost the last 3/4 of the book.

This is the story of mankind clawing for survival, of mankind on the edge. The world outside has grown unkind, the view of it limited, talk of it forbidden. But there are always those who hope, who dream. These are the dangerous people, the residents who infect others with their optimism. Their punishment is simple. They are given the very thing they profess to want: They are allowed outside.

What did you love best about Wool Omnibus Edition (Wool 1 - 5)?

the story kept moving and kept me engrossed. I couldn't "put it down"

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

the idea of people going out to clean the sensors and knowing they wouldn't survive was sad. and when the reader found out what they saw when they went outside it was shocking. an entire society based on lies

Trudy, a college history professor, is collecting oral histories from World War II survivors (both German and Jewish). Her mother, Anna, refuses to talk to her, but Anna's story is revealed in flashback. She conducted an affair with a Jewish baker who was summarily killed. Afterward, Anna caught the eye of a high-ranking Nazi officer.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

interesting story that may have been true for some who survived the war. I found the psychology well written and plausible.

What about Suzanne Toren’s performance did you like?

I enjoyed the differences she had for each character and the rate at which she spoke

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have if I could have!

Thousands of autonomous computer programs, or daemons, make our networked world possible, running constantly in the background of our lives, trafficking e-mail, transferring money, and monitoring power grids. For the most part, daemons are benign, but the same can't always be said for the people who design them.

Would you consider the audio edition of Daemon to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print version so I can't really answer this question. The audio version is extremely well performed.

What other book might you compare Daemon to and why?

World War Z. I listened to it recently and both are about the end of the world as we know it and creative possibilities.

What about Jeff Gurner’s performance did you like?

Each character has its own style and is distinct from the others.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When one of the characters was hurt another helped her and saved her while he went to keep in pursuit of the Daemon's minions.

Would you try another book from E. L. James and/or Becca Battoe?

    No

What could E. L. James have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Write it using literature style....have an actual plot. there is no need for 3 books (not that I even got through the first one)

What about Becca Battoe’s performance did you like?

    Read each character well.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Fifty Shades of Grey?

would have made many much shorter
