On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me—well, actually, my true love, Darcy O’Mara, is spending a feliz navidad tramping around South America. Meanwhile, Mummy is holed up in a tiny village called Tiddleton-under-Lovey with that droll Noel Coward! And I’m snowed in at Castle Rannoch with my bumbling brother, Binky, and sourpuss sister-in-law, Fig.

    Christmas Rating: Just plain fun!

First thought when finished: Rhys Bowen hit it out of the park with The Twelve Clues of Christmas. It was a great Christmas Who-Done-It!

Just my thoughts: The Twelve Clues of Christmas was a jolly good time! I had a blast while listening and was thrilled to delve back into her royal spyness. This is one fun series for those that like amateur sleuth stories. Check it out when you get a chance! These have a small carry over story but I think they can be read out of order or as standalones.

About the audio: Narrated by Katherine Kellgren and she did a bang up job! Her voices were spot on, the pacing was fantastic, and the reading was delightful.

Final thought: I recommend the Royal Spyness series to anyone who enjoys cozy mysteries!

First Thought when Finished:Personal Target by Kay Thomas had me wishing I had started at book 1 and that book 3 was already out. It was that good!

Overall Thoughts: The action was intense! I really like when a RS is heavy on the suspense and action so this was right up my alley. Also I am partial to stories about rescue surrounding human trafficking (aka my love of the LCR series by Christy Reece). It is a global issue so the locals also were interesting (Africa, Mexico). The romance was strong and with their history easy enough to fall in love with them. My only character complaint was the middle part of the story Jennifer was edging that TSTL line and Nick was pent up angry man. They both redeemed themselves though and that is all that matters. I will be picking up book 1 and counting down to book 3!

    Audio Thoughts:

Narrated By P.J. Ochlan / Length: 8 hrs and 47 mins

Holy number of accents! P.J. did a great job considering the number of accents in this story (Mexico, African, Southern) and still managed to keep the main characters unique. His male characters were stronger than his females but didn't take me long to warm up to those. I would listen to his narration again.

First Thought when Finished: Fair Game by Patricia Briggs was my favorite in the series so far!

Quick Thoughts:It was a great mix of mystery, romance (a totally inappropriate "bow chica bow bow" moment that was immediately called out by Anna so that made it OK), and momentum forward in the overall storyline. All around FANTASTIC! I didn't even knock off for that "wait where is the next one" ending.

First Thought when Finished: Say Yes to Marquess by Tessa Dare was a great way to end 2014! Rafe was so very Alpha (all protective and beat on your chest kind of way). Clio was smart as a whip (Yet she still managed to hold very well to the time--tricky to pull off but done very well). Together they made an unconventional pair that was a delight to read! I do so hope that Clio's sister eventually will get a book (when she is a tad bit older).

    Audio Thoughts:

This is the 2nd Historical Romance (the other being Sophie Jordan's Good Debutantes Guide to Ruin) that I have listened to narrated by Carmen Rose. She is becoming a narrator to watch for in my book. She handles the fine line of lady/spitfire very well!

    Audio Thoughts:

Hillary did 3 of the books in this series and I think she does a pretty good job. There were, I think, something like 4 different narrators for the series. Normally that annoys me but to be honest it worked for this series (other than I got attached to some voices by other narrators). Hillary was solid! She wasn't my favorite but overall she delivered.

NOTE: Keep Me Safe by Maya Banks was an excellent thriller but the romance really got in the way.

I have put off writing this review because quite simply I didn't know how to say what I felt about the story. So I am going to make a list:

1: The thriller part of the story was very strong! Even though the pacing was a bit off (more on that in number 2), the "case" was solid.

2: The romance kept getting in the way. I hate to say that about a romance book but this one would have been stronger without it. It slowed the story down.

    My Biggest Problem:

[ My biggest problem with Keep Me Safe was a scene that happened at the end of the book. Oddly enough if this was a Fringe thriller and that scene was there to prove the "reach" of the bad guy (he basically took over Caleb and made him almost kill her)---it would have worked. However, that scene was two-fold in that it was used to prove the reach/control of the bad guy and then BOOM we are at "I love you". This to me, was the biggest example of how the romance just did not work. Especially after what happened at the beginning of the book, the pacing and placement of "romance" just felt forced because it was supposed to be there. I felt if you wanted to solidify the romance, it should have been separated. (hide spoiler)]

All of that being said, I like dark thrillers and this was solid on that front. Rating was hard: I liked the book (can ignore the romance) and gave it a 3. If I was rating it as a romance it would have been a 2 but I don't rate based on genre. However, for full disclosure that would have happened if I did.

    Audio Thoughts:

Narrated By Jeffrey Kafer / Length: 7 hrs and 16 mins

This was my first book narrated by Jeffrey Kafer and he was probably the reason it ended up with a 3 instead of a 2. He brought edge to the story and added emotion just where it was needed. I was really impressed! I will listen to him again!

Final Thoughts: I will continue this series because honestly I want to see what happens!

Story Talk: I am one of the last people I know to get to this series so my review could be "what she said" :) However, I want to say that I loved the action, the emotion, and the world of Kate Daniels. The first of the story took me a bit to get into but by the end I was in the mood for more. I see why everyone loves this series.

Character Talk: Kate was AWESOME! I love her brass, sass, and her being a little unusual looking. I like that she isn't a beauty queen and she is quite OK with it. I am still warming up to Curran but I am sure I will get there. Overall, the characters hooked me and I can't wait to read more.

This is the first book that I have listened too by Renee but it won't be my last. I enjoyed her emotions, pacing, and most of her voices. Curran's voice is the only one that I am still getting used too. All of the other voices I think she nailed! I would recommend this series in audio format.

Final Thought: Great beginning for a new to me series. I am glad that I am finally knocking some things off my TBR.

Read at your own PERIL! I don't think it is spoilery but that might be because I thought it was a bit predictable, rehashing, and well not that much happened (other than Mac whining--in her head and while _______ <---bit spoilery)

First Thought when Finished: I don't even know where to start on how very disappointed I am with Burned by Karen Marie Moning.

I am going to have to write the review later when I have thought about it a bit. The rating might go up to a 3 but it probably won't.

Rating will not be going up! Still extremely disappointed. If this is the book she wanted to write, then good for her for doing her own thing. It didn't work for me but it wasn't written for me. Anytime I don't like a book, the author should not take it personally!

What you should know that impacted my view of the story:

1: I was a fan of Dani. I liked her fire, will to live, and ability to live with her choices. That character is no longer there. I am not saying how she is no longer there but let's just say that the change/disappearance was

    a)too contrived
    b)a cop-out
    c)not the Dani I adore

2: I don't like Mac. I started out the series liking her but by Shadowfever she was one of the most annoying lead females in UF (to me). I read in an interview that KMM said this was a combo Mac/Dani story--that is BS. This is 90% Mac and it is a LOT of back peddling. It annoyed the heck out of me. Seriously the last quarter of the book drove me insane. Really???? Just UGH!

3: I did love the Nine! In fact, if the next book is going to be told from anyone's POV let's just make it theirs. We can have 1/4 of Lor being Lor. 1/4 of R & B just being themselves, and then 1/4 the rest of them (I would like to get to know them better). The last 1/4 can be spent on the gals if you insist unless of course it is all Mac whining about how she is 23 and can't live her normal fantasy life.

4: I did love Kat and Jo so more of them would not be bad at all. In fact, they are a heck of a lot more interesting now.

5: Nothing FECKING happened! This is my biggest complaint! 3/4 of the book nothing happened. Seriously I kept thinking--oh this is going to lead somewhere---hmmmm nope. The last 1/4 of the book stuff happened but it was pretty predictable. Even that end (she usually is the queen of cliffhangers), if she hadn't put that there--I wouldn't have thought that character was gone. (not saying which or how or anything--read it). This was very much filler. Filler that took years to write? Just felt let down!

Final Thought on the book: I really hope the next book is not such a mess. If it is, I might just skim for things that say Lor and read!

Really, the book was meant for fans that hated Dani and loved Mac. It was really for those that wanted Mac/Barrons to be back in the forefront. If you are those fans then you will freaking love it. If you are not, then well grab a glass of wine and read all the Lor parts! They were fantastic!

    Audio Thoughts

Narrated By Phil Gigante, Natalie Ross , Length: 13 hrs and 9 mins

NAILED IT! Phil and Natalie just are a rocking team. They are a fantastic duo and can run the gambit of character voices. Just freaking ROCK STARS!

Please don't throw things at me---I just didn't like it
