What I Loved: Dame Judi Dench is one of those rare famous people that just don't strike you as famous at all. All of her stories reflect her beautiful personality and sparkling humor. She shares stories about her theater plays (of which you can clearly tell is her acting love and something she plans on doing until she cannot anymore), her time in movies, and her family. The best parts are how she speaks so lovingly of friends and family that she has had many years. She forms real bonds with people she works with and many of them have become life long friends. When she speaks of her family, you can tell her love overflowing and that makes you smile! Judi has really lead a very rich and wonderful life that I am so glad that she has shared with us.

What I Liked: She told stories about people you knew (Maggie Smith *squee*) and even people you did not. She brought you into the story so that you smiled when she smiled and got tears in your eyes during the sadder parts.

    Complaints: None

Audiobook Review: Judi Dench does the forward of the audiobook then turns it over to her friend Samantha Bond. She does a wonderful job of telling Judi's stories! So much so that after a while you forget that you aren't listening to Judi herself.

Why I Gave it a 4: This is a wonderful addition to books about Judi Dench and I love that this one was from her. I wanted it to be longer but she covered so much of her career that she had to be exhausted at the end.

Who I would recommend this too: Fans of Dame Judi Dench

Narrated By Eliza Foss / Length: 12 hrs and 51 mins

The narration was OK but it wasn't outstanding. I thought the pacing was off a little bit and some of the voices were just not my cup of tea. I thought Eliza did a great job with some other narrations (Alafair Burke)so it was just this match that didn't work for me.

It isn’t easy being Sunday’s child, not when you’re the rather overlooked and unhappy youngest sibling to sisters named for the other six days of the week. Sunday’s only comfort is writing stories, although what she writes has a terrible tendency to come true. When Sunday meets an enchanted frog who asks about her stories, the two become friends. Soon that friendship deepens into something magical. One night, Sunday kisses her frog goodbye and leaves, not realizing that her love has transformed him....

Read It File It Review: Dash of Peril by Lori Foster was not my favorite in the series but seeing all my favorite characters made me smile! This was a tough review for me to write because most of this series has been spectacular for me (Rowdy's book was a rare 5 for me) but I just never connected with the love story between Dash and Margo. That happens occasionally. The writing was great (as always) and I am really looking forward to the spin-off with Cannon!

Jim Frangione did a great job with Dash of Peril by Lori Foster. He had just the right amount of attitude for both of the lead characters. I think I enjoyed the book a bit more because of his narration.

First Thought when Finished: This is probably my 5th reread of Red Dragon by Thomas Harris and it still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up!

Overall Thoughts: (Quick Review) Red Dragon is one of those books that even though you know exactly how it is going to end, it still gets to you. Very seldom is there two dynamic "bad" guys that are so brilliantly crafted. Hannibal is of course his dastardly self (I often forget this is the first book he appears in) and his level of evil is off the charts. It is also very different than Red Dragon/The Tooth Fairy evil. In fact, it is Francis that is fascinating to puzzle out. His back story is as twisted as his crimes. Will Graham has always been my favorite profiler. Sorry Clarice fans but Will is just more fascinating all around. The way his mind works is as interesting as the criminals he chases. This book is twisted and scary. Just how I like my serial killers!

    Audio Thoughts:

Narrated By Alan Sklar / Length: 12 hrs and 6 mins

I thought Alan did a great job with Will and Francis but his Hannibal was a little off. That being said, overall I loved his pacing and deliverance of the story. I would listen to this again!

Final Thoughts: If you like scary (in a human not paranormal type of way) then read Red Dragon!

For as far back as she can remember, Airiana Ridell has always been aware of her extraordinary gift. She can intuit revealing and illuminating "patterns" in the air around her - whether in a spray of mist, in billowing clouds, or in the dense swirls of an impenetrable fog. Her abilities led to her placement in a secret government training facility when she was a child, but everything changed after her mother was murdered.

First Thought when Finished: Air Bound by Christine Feehan was a wonderful addition to the Sisters of the Heart Series. I am very excited that everything/everyone is coming together!

Story Thoughts: This is my favorite Sisters of the Heart book so far. The story was a great combination of action, overall story arc move forward, and romance. The kids both broke my heart and gave me hope. They were so brilliantly brave in a horrible situation. Also, the slow build between Airiana and Maxim was perfectly well done. I liked their connection in element first. This will be in my reread pile.

Character Thoughts: I love Airiana! She was fierce, determined, knew her limitations, was willing to do whatever it took, and trusted her feelings. I am always cheering when someone just accepts what they know to be true. Took me a bit more to warm up to Maxim (as it should) but when I did, I swooned like my teenage self at a Bon Jovi concert. Together they were great!

    Audio Thoughts:

Narrated By Phil Gigante / Length: 12 hrs and 38 mins

I love Phil but with this series he is always hit/miss for me. This time I just don't think I could get into his voice for Airiana. He did Maxim fantastically but alas it just wasn't my favorite narration of his. However, I will keep on with this in audio because he pulls the brothers off wonderfully.

Final Thoughts: Just found out it will be another year till the next one: counting down!

From Charlaine Harris, the best-selling author who created Sookie Stackhouse and her world of Bon Temps, Louisiana, comes a darker locale - populated by more strangers than friends. But then, that's how the locals prefer it. Welcome to Midnight, Texas, a town with many boarded-up windows and few full-time inhabitants, located at the crossing of Witch Light Road and Davy Road. It' s a pretty standard dried-up western town.

First Thought when Finished: Midnight Crossroad by Charlaine Harris had a very strong (and enjoyable) mystery and the characters are starting to grow on me!

Story Thoughts: I am a self-professed fangirl of Charlaine Harris' ability to write a good mystery. It is the main reason that I love her stories. She writes a darn good "who-dun-it". Midnight Crossroad is no exception in that aspect. Once we got to the mystery, the book really took off. I was invested and a little bit caught off guard that one of my off-the-wall guesses was right (granted I only guessed off-the-wall because sometimes Charlaine will do that). Even though it takes a bit to get to the mystery, it really was worth the journey. My only complaint was the pacing for the first 1/3 of the book which happens a lot in first in series. Especially when you are introducing a town as quirky as Midnight, TX!

Character Thoughts: Going to admit that it took till the last quarter of Midnight Crossing for me to get into the characters. In the beginning, I just couldn't quite connect with them. There were too many characters but towards the end I realized why. Now, I am invested in Fiji and her familiar. I was happy to see characters such as Manfred and Arthur from her other series. Overall, I am sure in the 2nd book I will have more favorites!

    Audio Thoughts:

Narrated by: Susan Bennett/Length: 9 hrs and 29 mins

I thought Susan did an excellent job with the narration of Midnight Crossroad. She managed to capture the quirkiness of the town just right. She showcased the large cast in a way that made each one stand out and be completely unique. I will be continuing this in audio.

Final Thought: Rocky start but excellent mystery!

First Thought when Finished: An Uninvited Ghost by E.J. Copperman was a fun entry into the series. The characters are just fantastic!

Story Thoughts: Oh My! What do you do when you turn your house into a B&B and then someone ends up dead? Well if you are Alison you try not to investigate but with pesky ghosts bugging you too, you end up doing it anyway! The mystery was fun in An Uninvited Ghost. You could mostly tell who was responsible about half way though but watching the story play out was still entertaining. One of the things I love about this series is the police are involved. Alison does work with them and even tries to stay out of the way. Things never quite go that well for her but at least she tries. I think most cozy mystery lovers will like the mystery and how it plays out!

Character Thoughts: Let's talk ghosts! I don't think there is a better duo of ghosts than Paul and Maxie. They both bring such life to the series. Neither has been dead very long so you get some "growing" pains and adjustments that just make you laugh (and sometimes tear up). Ali is a kick butt leading lady. She is a single mother to a very smart kid and has a mother that is supportive (and yet a little off). Of course, all 3 can see ghosts so that plays into their personalities as well. The "Off The Shore" cast that was in this book was hilarious and the "Old Folks Vacationers" were delight too. EJ Cooperman just writes good characters!

    Audio Thoughts:

Narrated by: Amanda Ronconi /Length: 9 hrs and 31 mins

I almost sound like a broken record where Amanda's narration is concerned but I have never heard her do a bad job--EVER! Seriously she just does quirky better than anyone. She has great pacing and just the right amount of "snark" in her voice. I adore her narration.

Final Thoughts: I am off to get the 3rd book in the series :)

NOTE: I feel the need to state this up front: When I tried Gameboard of the Gods by Richelle Mead a year ago it was a DNF for me. I am fairly certain it was a combo of mood and this is a little outside my reading zone (fantasy is always hit/miss). A friend suggested I try it on audio and that made a world of difference to me. I was drawn into the story and didn't get to bogged down in the areas that tripped me up before.

First Thought when Finished:Gameboard of Gods by Richelle Mead was a fascinating mixture of fantasy, mythology, and kick ass UF.

Story Thoughts: If you like stories based on mythology (not just Greek but at this point Norse too--going to guess more later) then I think you will enjoy Gameboard of the Gods. There are a few pacing issues for the first half and I think the world building could have been a little stronger BUT the story is there. The unique twist that Richelle Mead gave this genre makes me excited to listen to the next book: The Immortal Crown. The story had a strong second half that picked up the pace, broadened the mystery (which I thought was well done), and gave the characters more depth. It was definitely worth a read!

Character Thoughts: Richelle has always had the unique ability to take a character which you normally wouldn't root for (Rose in VA, Adrian in Bloodlines, Roman from the Succubus series, and Eugenie from Dark Swan) and making them work. Same works here with Justin. Seriously on paper there is not much that makes him the kind of guy you root for: serious player, has a bit of a drinking problem, thinks he is always right, and can cut to the quick with his tongue. Yet, you find yourself rooting for him anyway. Mae is pretty kick ass and I think we have just reached the tip of the iceberg of who she is. She is a lot like Rose and Eugenie in that she is far from perfect, a bit edgy, and does things that are a bit outside the box. These two characters with all their imperfections work really well together!

    Audio Thoughts:

Narrated By Emily Shaffer / Length: 16 hrs and 9 mins

Emily knocked it out of the mother-freaking park! I am not sure I could have made it through the beginning half of the book without her brilliant narration. Her pacing was good, nuances good, and I even liked her voice for Justin! I will be continuing this series in Audio.

Final Thoughts: I am glad I decided to give Gameboard of the Gods another whirl!

First Thoughts when Finished: I love the boys from Black Knights Inc. and Hell for Leather by Julie Ann Walker was another great entry in the series.

Story Thoughts: I have to admit I had 2 moments in this story that really stood out (and yes they both are the same exact scene): First, kudos to Julie for making the "getting smexy" time at least at a time when they weren't in a battle, they were sort of alone (at least in the room)and nothing was pressing. Seriously I about cheered! Second, I had to laugh at that same scene because it was supposed to be scratching Delilah's itch and he is all like "do this for me". I was like dude this is about her! Other than that, I really enjoyed both the romance and the action in Hell for Leather. I thought it was timely and really kept me on the edge. Even the bit of a darker turn was perfect for the story. The end scene was great because I would have screamed if she had not called him on his ass for being a knucklehead.

Character Thoughts: I loved Delilah and Mac! I thought their love story was pretty darn awesome and yeah to Delilah for being the gal to knock him on his ass. I admit that Mac has been one of my favorite characters in this series because he is a TX boy, so his love interest needed to be pretty darn awesome. I wasn't disappointed.

So Angela "Freaking" Dawe is now doing the Black Knights series and now it is on my must get on audiobook list. To say I am thrilled she is doing the narration is a bit of an understatement. I thought she did an excellent job on the narration.

Story Thoughts: I told someone the other day that I was just going to write this for my review: If you love Historical Romance then you need to read When the Duke Was Wicked. Why? It has a plot device that I have never seen in an historical and it really worked! Seriously, I think Kimba said it best when she said the secret was just brilliant. This story just worked for me on every level.

Character Thoughts: I will admit that you don't have to read the series that this is spun off of to enjoy this or the characters. In fact, it is completely two different generations. However, I dare you not to squee like a fan girl if you have because I don't think it is possible. The second I realized it was the kids, I might have done a little jig. It might have also been a tad bit embarrassing. I loved Grace and Lovingdon's love story. They were so perfectly matched and well suited for each other personality wise. Their HEA was FANTASTIC!
