The story is excellent and even though I've read the book, to hear it on audio is wonderful new way experience this amazing book!
Hands down DeVere! He is the “Rico Suave” of his time. He’s charming, shrewd, debauched and quite honorable when need be, although the thought of that makes him cringe! He’s also shamelessly amusing and more than once his thoughts and words had me laughing out loud.
Too many to name, but when DeVere lays his lovin' on Diana...my ears nearly burned to a crisp!
Victoria Vane’s writing is like the finest of chocolates. It melts in your mouth, it consumes you as you enjoy its sinful decadence, and long after it’s gone it stays with you. Just delicious!! The Devil You Know is beautifully done and depicts the Georgian time period both in setting and superbly crafted words, which is fast becoming the author’s trademark. The intimacy that ensues between DeVere and Diana left me breathless; it’s naughty, sexy and passionate. The book is also filled with witty dialogue, and although this is a novella, it’s a substantial story. The ending leads us and teases us right into the next book. I can hardly wait!!
Wonderful...the author and narrator played this really well!
I was unprepared for emotions this book stirred up in me. Two lost souls; Anthea is lost to her celebrity, and Cole is lost to the horrific event that altered his life forever. Their chance meeting would bring about huge changes in their lives, and I thought the author did a great job entwining the characters and their stories! I was impressed when I found out this was her debut novel!
I didn't like Anthea at first, but once she settled into her role as Ann, a fake name she used, her true personality came through and I grew to like her...a lot! Deep down she was always this sweet caring person, but it was tamped down by the fame and success she acquired at such a young age.
Cole, broke my heart. Living alone, trapped by his disability and insecurity. He was a beautiful man, and he just needed to have the right woman come into his life to make him step out of the safety of the world he created for himself. All he ever had to gauge romance on was the books that he listened to, so sweet and touching, but he paid attention and when the moment came for him to become intimate for the first time, he had the stuff to make Anthea/Ann and me... RAWRRRR!!!
I was shocked when it was revealed as to what happened to him as a child, I didn't see it coming, made me want to wrap my arms around him. I had my suspicions about what caused Cole's blindness, and as your reading, don't scoff, it's real, although in Cole's case it might have been exaggerated to add effect to the read.
I wanted more in the way of an ending, it was sweet, but...something was missing. I could see this going the way of a series. There were a few secondary characters that felt had a story to tell and it would be awesome to catch up with Cole and Anthea, a novella would be nice too *hint hint*. Other than my problem with the ending, there was so much to love about this book. Even though there are some serious issues being dealt with, I never felt anxious, the story transitioned nicely and was a delight to read!
The narrator, Eva Kaminsky, was fabulous! I thought her Aussie accent was very authentic. She didn't try too hard, gave a distinct voice to each character, and emitted the emotions as the author intended. I'll be looking for more from her as well as the author, Darcy Daniel, who did a stand-out job with this debut novel!
I can’t even begin to tell you how much I enjoyed this book. Just when you think you have it all figured out…you don’t. So many twists and turns, I was getting dizzy! I can’t even imagine what’s going to come next. I need The Hero of Ages now!!
Michael Kramer rocked the narration!
Michael Kramer has a strong smooth voice; perfect for this read…I was mesmerized and caught up in his passionate narration. When you read an epic book, such as this, where at every turn the story changes, an audiobook with a good narrator, can give the reader the element of surprise…no eyes skimming ahead at crucial points, you live it, you are in the moment, as the words are read. I highly recommend listening to the audio version of this book, even if you’ve already read it, it’s worth the listen!!
Right at the top!
It's nothing like anything I've listened to before. It's in a class of it's own!
It constantly surprised me. I never knew what to expect.
The story is a standout, but the narration by Khristine Hvam brings the story to life and allows the listener to experience this amazing book in a whole new light!
No review I could ever do, would give this book the justice it is so deserving of! You have to experience it to understand all the meaning that it holds. It's an amazing journey I will NEVER forget!
Loved the story, wasn't a fan of the narrator. For the life of me I don't understand why the same narrator wasn't used in all 3 books in this series, since the characters from the first book have a heavy presence in this book and no doubt in the third one, which has a different narrator too! I want my characters to stay true to form and with the constant changing of voices, that's not happening.
I enjoyed Willow and Kane, she was quirky and fun, he was private and withdrawn. Willow just being Willow talked herself right into Kane's life. It was pretty funny and awfully cute! Not much drama, a sweet ending, and nice lead in to the next book!
5 Stars! J.D. Robb does it again. Seventeen books in and this series is still going strong!! It never gets old for me and it just keeps getting better. Roarke and Eve are so comfortable in their relationship, it makes me smile. I love the way they tease each other, Eve comes off as so aloof and annoyed, all the while loving it when Roarke irks her into submission. The passion and desire they have for each other gives me the warm fuzzies. On this particular case Eve brings Roarke on board as a consultant and whenever that happens it just adds a little extra to the read. The more Roarke...the better. Along for the ride are the crazy love birds, Peabody and McNab, Eve's rock...Feeney, and the lovely Dr. Mira. All that and another amazing plot, with a psychotic killer, tense moments, as Eve whittles away at the clues to find justice for the victims!!
Susan Erickson is phenomenal as the book's narrator. She nails the voice for each character, and injects the right emotion and inflection, making an already thrilling read...EVEN BETTER!!
