The narration/reading of this book made me wonder if it was written in all capitals and italics. While I appreciated the information/ideas shared by the author, I didn't appreciate him yelling at me. I understand he's trying to motivate, but the intensity of his voice was just too much.

A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of very curious photographs. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets 16-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

Largely, I enjoyed the story, but not the listening experience. The reader wasn't able to pull off the different characters or ANY accent other than American. Consequently, the slow, deliberate reading of Miss Peregrine and others, makes them sound like dolts. The book could have been an hour shorter if read properly. So, it was hard to be patient with this and to envision the characters as I think the author intended them.
The story is fun, but if you don't appreciate swearing--especially the vain use of God's name--be warned, because there's a fair amount within.
