  • Silent Running: My Years on a World War II Attack Submarine

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 30 mins)
    • By James F. Calvert
    • Narrated By Kevin Patrick

In this riveting personal account, an authentic American hero relives the perils and triumphs of eight harrowing patrols aboard one of America's most successful World War II submarines. Courageous deeds and terror-filled moments - as well as the endless hard work of maintaining and operating a combat sub - are vividly recalled in Calvert's candid portrait.

julie says: "A fascinating view of WW2 Sub Warfare"
    "Tremendous, informative, loved it!"

I have read a number of books on submirines from the WWII days and more modern. This was one of the best. While the audio level could have been a little louder, the quality of the voice, the presentation and the content of the book itself is wonderful. The material was informative, exciting, heart warming, terrifying and just plain fun to listen to.

  • Longitude: The True Story of a Genius Who Solved the Greatest Scientific Problem of His Time

    • UNABRIDGED (4 hrs and 20 mins)
    • By Dava Sobel
    • Narrated By Kate Reading

In 1714, England's Parliament offered a huge reward to anyone whose method of measuring longitude could be proven successful. The scientific establishment, from Galileo to Sir Isaac Newton, had mapped the heavens in its certainty of a celestial answer. In stark contrast, one man, John Harrison, dared to imagine a mechanical solution, a clock that would keep precise time at sea, something no clock had been able to do on land. And the race was on.

Eric says: "Great book with interesting history and science..."
    "Totally amazing"

Wow!! I just loved this book. I purchased it thinking it might be interesting, might not and was totally captivated with it. The book helped me understand the challenges during the 16th and 17th centures and amazed me with the hard work and intelligence of the people involved during that time..

If you enjoy history, technology and the great minds of this era, this is a must listen.

  • The Second Coming of Steve Jobs

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 58 mins)
    • By Alan Deutschman
    • Narrated By Charles Stransky
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

From the acclaimed Vanity Fair and GQ journalist - an unprecedented, in-depth portrait of the man whose return to Apple precipitated one of the biggest turnarounds in business history.

Thomas says: "Awesome background on Apple, NeXT, and Pixar."
"Wonderfully interesting from a UNIX person"

I really didn't know much about Apple and/or Steve being a UNIX person the last twenty years or so. With that in mind, I found this book fascinating esspecially the insights into Steve himself and the people and history behind Pixar. Great stuff..
