"Too much sexual inuendo"
I'm a business traveler on the road a lot and audio books keep me awake as I drive. I found myself feeling like I was trudging through passages just trying to find out what Dresden will learn. I made it through half way...gritting my teeth. I don't consider myself a prude, but there was too much of it...like a hormonal teenager wrote the book. I kept getting the idea that the author was trying to live out adolescent fantasies through his writing.
"Easter is cancelled...they found the body" was too offensive to give the book any more time to try and hook me. I will NOT purchase the Codex Alera series now. I recommend Brandon Sanderson, Christopher Paolini, Terry Goodkind and their ilk.
"A gem! Hilarious writing, great reader!"
This was my first Terry Pratchett book. I am going to get the whole Discworld series now.
"Not for me"
The book started out a little silly, then the cussing started and I turned it off. Silly is okay but if I want to hear this kind of language, I'll go visit a public school.
"Fantastic! Very funny and great performance"
Very witty story. The voices are great! ...except for the dragon. Good for anyone...even if they don't usually like fantasy.
""F" word is pervalent in the story..."
...at least the beginning. I didn't make it through more than 15 mintues of the story. I don't like th "F" word. If you don't mind it, you might like it. I can't review the story fairly because I didn't give it a listen for long enough so I gave it 3 stars, figuring it is neither good or bad.
"Too much sexually deviant material-NOT FOR KIDS!!!"
I got to the second part. I hoped it would be cleaner than the first book, "Wizard's First Rule" and it is worse. I am going to avoid Terry Goodkind's books altogether.
"A must read for fantasy lovers"
The world Brandon Sanderson weaves is rich and the character development is personal. I enjoyed the relationships of the bridgemen and the way they and Kaladin interract with eachother. I won't give anything away. There is humor, cynicism, really bad, bad guys and a great story.
The narrators are great, as they always are.
I cannot wait for the next in the series. I'm very glad that Sanderson is a hard-working writer. The year, he will actually release three books. Two of which are huge.
"Too Much Bad Language For My Taste"
I couldn't get very far before I had to turn it off. If I want to get cussed at, I'll go to the local public school. He did a great job on "Nick of Time"...that was wonderful. John Shea read that one, too.
"Great Story, great reader"
You won't be disappointed. Each book in the series is good as a stand-alone book but are great as a series. You can tell that Jim Butcher had a direction from the first book on where he wanted the series to go. My wife and I travel a lot and like fantasy. Very entertaining. Plot is split between different characters, but not so much you can't keep up.
The different races in Butcher's world and their customs are interesting. As the series continues, the relationships that develop are realistic and heart-warming.
Kate Reading is a very good reader. Usually, female readers make the characters sound the same. She brings many different voices to the story so that you can tell who is speaking when the text doesn't mention it.
"Spoon-fed Homosexuality"
I couldn't finish the book because of the homosexual references. I tried to ignore it, but the author won't let you. It is too bad, because the story itself is okay. I recommend Brandon Sanderson, Robert Jordan, Christopher Paolini, Clive Cussler, Louis L'Amour and others. Too many good authors that aren't offensive. I don't like sexuality in my books anyway, but this is offensive.
