Wonderful series, great character development, and a super listen. As with most epic tales at some point the story drags a little, but overall still a 5 star with me.

The Malazan Empire simmers with discontent, bled dry by interminable warfare, bitter infighting, and bloody confrontations with ancient and implacable sorcerers. Even the imperial legions, long inured to the bloodshed, yearn for some respite. Yet Empress Laseen’s rule remains absolute, enforced by her dreaded Claw assassins. For Sergeant Whiskeyjack and his squad of Bridgeburners, and for Tattersail, their lone surviving mage, the aftermath of the siege of Pale should have been a time to mourn the many dead. But Darujhistan, last of the Free Cities, yet holds out.

I tried, I really did, I'm 4 hours in and have absolutely no clue, I don't know, maybe it's my listening style but I continually reset and listened again. Perhaps it is the narration or my habit of listening in short bursts, I'm totally lost, after 7 days of trying, many resets and no idea of the plot or ability to follow the characters, I finally gave up.

Of course, "your mileage may vary"

I've enjoyed this second in the series as much as the first. Flows smoothly, fast paced and fun. Great narration, easy listen, and a break from my normal inclination towards epic fantasy. I'm looking forward to books 3 and 4!

I still can't get over the fact that this series hooked me like it did, I took a chance and was rewarded, you can too!

It turns out that monsters are real. All the things from myth, legend, and B-movies are out there, waiting in the shadows. Some of them are evil, and some are just hungry. Monster Hunter International is the premier eradication company in the business. And now Owen is their newest recruit.

OK, so not my usual genre, was looking for something a little different than the epic fantasy's I've been following. Hesitated, but glad I plunged in. Fast pace, interesting characters, light and easy to follow, and Ohh did I mention monsters - a lot of them!

I'm glad I took the chance, enjoyed it a lot, in fact I just purchased the rest of the series and look forward to listening to those. Try it you will like it.

Enjoyed this final book in the series very much. The ending was different than what I expected but did not detract from the story at all. Loved the narration, made for a very easy listen. Some have complained about the strong language throughout, for me it made it more lifelike. Spend your credits and listen, you won't be disappointed!

Bitter and merciless war is coming to the frozen north. It's bloody and dangerous and the Union army, split by politics and hamstrung by incompetence, is unprepared for the slaughter that's coming. Lacking experience, training, and in some cases even weapons, the army is scarcely equipped to repel Bethod's scouts, let alone his elite forces. In the heat-ravaged south, the Gurkish are massing to assault the city of Dagoska, defended by Inquisitor Glokta.

I don't know, maybe it's me, but I think it was a combination of the story and the narrator, I just couldn't connect. The story may ultimately come about, but the sing song narration just pushes me away. I've given it 6 hours of my life and it was a disappointment. I gave up and am moving on to bigger and better things. Sorry!
