"As always a great story, highly amusing but..."
Stephen Fry has managed to disappoint again with a rather stolid reading of a very funny and great book. So sad.
"A good story and well read"
This story has a few surprises in it that you do not expect. A few twists and turns that keep you interested throughout. I like the way in which the story unfolds, slowly but, without boredom becoming an issue. So the plot is a good one, and it is well written without the plodding unimaginative prose that so often goes along with this genre. The narrator does a fine job with only one of the voices that does not quite fit the character in my humble opinion. That being said, the character only plays a minor part, so this isn’t a huge issue. Hence if you like this genre I would certainly recommend you buy this book.
"Typical Kootz story"
Another offering from Mr. Kootz and was as expected. The ending was a little soft and it was certainly no surprise. But it was a fun offering. Typical Kootz though, not particularly memorable but good fun whilst it lasts. Sometimes I wonder if Mr Kootz writes to a formula that he has written on a whiteboard in front of him. It sometimes feels that way, as though he has done market research to see what will appeal to his readers.
"A tired premise."
I bought this title because I had been meaning to read the book before watching the movie. I had heard that bothe were great. I will watch the movie one day I am sure, but the book? Such a very tired premise. I was so bored and so not amused. We all know that poking fun at military intelligence services has been done to death. If you have read this sort of this before don't bother, if you haven't this may be a good place to start. I am again wishing for half stars because the story and overall scores are worth 2.5 stars. Another average offering.
"Another fun ride"
The writing has not changed and the characters have stayed as they should. I often find that some authors keep on writing a series because they know they can spin it out for more money. This doesn’t feel like this. I am looking forward to the rest of the series.
"A rollicking good ride"
This is a boys own adventure. It’s good fun and well written with a good narrator. It is no great literature but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I bought the rest of the series based on the first listen. I hope they are just as good.
"Good with some serious reservations"
A rape scene in which the man "knows" that a previously frigid woman fights, bites and battles because she is overcome with passion that she has never felt before. This is an old male fantasy apparently and, the way in which Ms. Rand perpetuates it is sad, but not surprising, because of the time in which it is written. This made me a little angry. I am not surprised that Ms. Rand enjoyed being referred to as a man, she seems to have believed that women are a little pathetic.
What also made me slightly nauseas was the characters. Their relationships were absurd. This woman who the main character raped, then loves him madly and he, her. She however, promises to destroy him and has a damned good go at it, rather by omission than by any other means. But this is a relationship where these two people are so close to one another that they start conversations in the middle because they know one another so very well.
I know that this book is supposed to have some deep seated philosophical importance concerning objectivism, capitalism and so forth. Well, I just thought it was a rather plodding story of it’s time. Maybe I am not clever enough to read the subtext.
"I enjoyed this thoroughly"
This is one of those books that you don't want to stop listening to/reading. The narrator does a good job. Altogether a pleasure. Thankyou. I will be searching out more books by Mr Clines.
"Mr Fry is very good so are the stories"
These stories are memorable and Mr Fry reads them well. The stories can be a little quirky and are quintessentially British. I love them dearly.
"Oh how I love this genre but..."
This author is a hack. I put this book in the "airport" category. A book that you can read/listen to when other things are likely to distract you. I would never buy anything by this author again.
"After Fuzzy Nation this is just a huge let-down"
Mr Scalzi wrote Fuzzy Nation based on another author's work. It shows. This is very very forgettable. A very ordinary book with an ok reader.
