"Great As Usual"
Grabs and Holds
Too many memorable moments to allow me to single out just one!!
I liked the scene in the well where our heroes use an old tire in a really clever way.
I love these CC books. They never disappoint. I hold my breath, breathe a sigh of relief, then hold my breath again. Scott Brick makes the scenes and the characters come alive. I listen to these books in preference to watching movies.
So glad these new books become available at Audible. I know I'll not be disappointed any time I use a credit for a CC book. Great suspense, super action, and in general: Delicious "Brain Candy"
"Should be 10 Stars!!"
This book was SO GREAT / FASCINATING / DELIGHTFUL!!! The story grabs the listener from the first sentence clear through to the last paragraph. Unique story. The reader is fantabulous!! Difficult to summarize the plot without giving anything away. Yes, by all means this book is worth a credit!! You definitely will not be disappointed!!
"Very Very Thought Provoking!!"
Good solid plot. Likeable characters. Good narrator.Very thought provoking in the realm of robotics. A good listen. Not exactly a "page turner" but a good listen nevertheless. Go ahead and spend a credit. You won't be disappointed.
"Thought provoking foreign detective story"
I used a credit for this book for reason of the other reviews written about it. It does have an excellent plot which moves well, although definitely not "fast." This book is not a "cliff hanger" nor a "page turner" but does an excellent job of providing the listener of a birds' eye view of police establishments in other countries. There seem to be more similarities than differences between our American culture and that of Sweden and Lithuania. The story opens with good action and the author proceeds well through the novel to the action which happens at the end. Well thought out plot that moves well. My personal preference is for more "action" and more "cliff hanger" events; however, I rated the story relatively highly for the reason the author has written a quality novel and the reader does an excellent job in the narration. On a personal note, I had some difficulty keeping the characters straight for reason of their strange sounding names; however, the listener does become acclimated to the foreign names. All in all there is good value for a book credit.
"A "grownup" scary story for the campfire"
Light listening. Doesn't require focused attention. Constant action. Shallow plot. Would remain neutral re. recommending.
The connection of the murderer to the town
Disappointing this time.
No
Usually Scott Brick can make a recipe interesting but not with this book. His interpretation of the characters didn't seem to match the personalities described by the author. Good thing Scott Brick is my absolute favorite reader so it is possible to overlook his performance with this book. This book seems to be an "adult scary story" that would be told around a campfire on a camping trip.
"Be prepared for a 10 hour adrenalin rush!!"
Brainrush I was awesome. Brainrush II is "off the graph" - Wish I could have rated this higher than a five in all categories. For those of you old enough to remember the Saturday Morning "Cliffhangers" at the local movie theater: This book has enough cliffhangers in it to fill about 300 movie clips. Our Hero and his entourage find themselves in more impossible events than possible to count. Thank goodness the "rabbit comes out of the hat" just in time. Listened to this book virtually non-stop except for a few hours of sleep. Can't wait for the sequel. This narrator is also terrific. Hard to believe there is just one narrator involved. He is a total genius and I'll be looking for more books narrated by RC Bray. Plot was good. Characters well-defined and plausible. Hope to see many more books of the same genre from this author and narrator!! You definitely will not be disappointed!!
"WOW!!!"
Great Action. True "page turner" - characters well defined. Plot was somewhat simple but also easy to follow - very little "rewinding" required. Just a gr8 listen. Narrator did an excellent job of turning the printed pages into a cerebral video for the listener. All in all, a great, fun "listen." Definitely five star in all categories for pure recreational reading.
""Ten Star" all the way!"
A real page turner but NOT "brain candy." - Many characters, each with a well defined role within the subplots. Some audiobooks can be listened to on "autopilot" - (not this one) - get the most out of this novel by careful listening and actually follow the subplots. There is believable science fiction, believable intrigue, believable action and suspense. The author has expertly interwoven the facets into a spectacular "page turner." Not one "page" of this book was superfluous. Not one paragraph was boring. You will be spellbound from the beginning to the end. Wish I could have rated this book a "ten star" but unfortunately, we're limited to a five-star only. You definitely will not be disappointed.
"Shallow plot, dragged out"
Difficult to listen to this entire book. Didn't require any concentration at all. I put this book in the category of a "dime mystery novel" - Narration was good. If you listen to books while doing other tasks requiring concentration, then go ahead and burn a credit. Book seemed to drag on forever. Was sooooooooooo glad when I finished it.
"Groannnnnnnnnnnnnn"
Do Not - I repeat: "Do Not Waste a credit on this book." Approx 85% of the book was a rehash of the original Gold Coast. Virtually no plot. Shallow characters. I gave the Gold Coast a better review primarily because it was not my preferred genre and I gave it the "benefit of the doubt." This sequel was the biggest disappointment in audiobooks that I've ever experienced. DeMille should stick to the genre in which he IS good at: Action, adventure, espionage, intrigue and quit trying to write a "dime romance novel." Again, DO NOT WASTE A CREDIT. The book was awful.
"Slow Start but Hang in There"
I loved Plum Island, The Charm School and The Lion's Game. This book is a totally different genre. I used my book credit for the reason it had such rave reviews. Although I prefer more suspense, action, and foreign intrigue, this book has an excellent plot-well developed. Characters are aptly described. Easy for the listener to visualize all that DeMille is describing. The author takes a long time in Part 1 in the character development and misc. scene and event descriptions, but it does all add to the overall picture. Be patient with Part 1 of the book. I had to "re-listen" to several parts of Part 1 as it is very slow in getting started. Parts 2 & 3 contain faster plot development and more interesting facets of the story. "Hang in There" - you will find this book a page turner as it progresses. Am starting to listen to the sequel, The Gate House, today. Need to find out what happens to these unfortunate souls...................I wasn't that pleased with the reader, but then, I'm a Scott Brick fan. The reader does do an excellent job of portraying the snobbish, somewhat wimpy, husband. He also portrays the mafia characters very well. Again, "Hang in There" through Part 1 and you won't be disappointed.
