ok, So...I loved this book and I loved the series. I think tho that the real question is this: will Audible EVER give us the last book in an unabridged form or will this be another like OUTLANDER series where there's just some cheap abridged version of the next in the series? I'm getting a bit frustrated. I love epics but I love the endings too. So far i've got 4 unfinished epics in my library. 3 of them because Audible doesn't have the last books.Codex, Ice and Fire (boo George R.R. Martin you promised us September!), OUTLANDER (i won't consider it done til you give us unabridged; so far the abridged has really bad and unsatisfied reviews.) So, YES (!), I love the Codex Alera Series. Great narration, great characters (some I love to hate), great series. BUT PLEASE, can we have the last book in unabridged and SOON!
I would, I do, I shall, without doubt, immerse myself in this book and the Outlander series!
There is no other book or series of this kind! Within it's own genre, the Outlander series is singular and unique. Additionally, the vocal artistry (and I do SERIOUSLY mean artistry!) of Davina Porter is above exceptional.
Yes! As always Davina Porter breathes life and depth into the creations of any author.
Yes. I am always excited about hearing the voices davina creates.
Treat yourself or gift someone you want to impress with this exceptional series read by a great talent! you won't regret it. I joined Audible to get the longest book I could get my hands on. (Hehe!) I remain with Audible because Outlander became my favorite.
I've listened to this book twice and it only got better the second time around!
I wouldn't think to compare this book to any other because it is a one of a kind series and it is possible that Brandon Sanderson has created THE most interesting portrayal of a forgotten, then reemerging magical possibility that seems based on what seems like quantum physics! The characters are deep and well fleshed out. The action is discriptive but never boring and the
I can't say I have ONE favorite because i admired a few , both good guys AND (surprisingly!)
I listened to this series in 2007, and many times since then (every time George R.R. promised to move the story along).I listened to the whole series AGAIN at all the hype that the next book was coming this year. Once again, no book. I do notice that his books on AUDIBLE have gone up in price from one credit to TWO. I also notice that he is still writing his little compilations to keep us buying. I just have to ask, "Don't you love us anymore George? We, the loyal fans who count on you? Yes, you are a genius, yes, you know very well how to craft a cliffhanger, but at a certain point, don't you feel any obligation or, barring that, a bit of pity for those you leave hanging? I give up. I have retracted all my requests on various sites to be notified of when the next book comes along. Other listeners and readers have been waiting longer than I have but, go on ahead. Keep yourself busy so you don't have to get down to this project. Enjoy all your traveling and bask in the light of the love your fans bestow. As for me, I've never been good at hanging on cliffs. I gave you two loyal, patient years and I am done now. Good luck and good life to you. I may not know you personally but i do know this: you don't keep your promises."
As for this series on AUDIBLE? The books are really good, the change in narrator pretty much ruins Crows because of the different style of reading. The different characterizations are not well defined and clear as in the other books. If you won't enjoy indefinate waiting for the next book, put your TWO credits elsewhere. The hint of a new book is no reason to get dunned an extra credit best used elsewhere. CHECK OUT Jim Butcher's CODEX ALERA (it does have an ending, is awesome and credit price didn't go up just because) or the WHEEL OF TIME series which is taken forward by the brilliant Brandon Sanderson. Also check out Sanderson's MISTBORN series. Aloha!
I have listened to the books in this series and (yikes!) I got so involved I stopped everything I was doing and enjoyed the action! Kate Reading is ABSOLUTELY AWESOME. She really brings the characters to life throughout the whole series thus far and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of emotion in her voice! I found myself "feeling" the emotions of characters and situations and I loved the descriptions of places and people, the writer really drew me into the story. I would have to say that this series should be on the credit-worthy list. As a side note, I feel the need to add that I love "Epics" but I am terribly picky about what series I keep listening / reading. This is a great one and I will be sad when it's over.
Amazing. This read is one of my favs now. I was pleasantly surpirsed to listen to this one. The narrator is just right and the story comes to life as you listen. There's no confusion in the story line, and though it is sexually explicit, it is done in such a way that it enhances the story and descriptions without detracting from the quality of the read. This is NOT gratuitous sexuality. This is artistry of verse and description. I can't wait to find out if the writer stays true to style. If so, I'm a fan for life!
um...yuck! sorry... but true.
Argh! I hate to say it but this is the first Stephen King that i absolutely hated. I had to force myself to listen to the darn thing all the way through. It was just plain boring. I felt like i was listening to a biography (sorry Steve) more than anything else. It wasn't exciting like his usual stuff and i kept wondering if he's gone out of the fiction and is actually writing about some changes hye experienced during his convalescence. Too close to home maybe?
I bought this particular reading by this specific person because Stephen King wrote a review in his book saying that he loved the way this man read. I think that if you enjoy hearing a reading by a voice in the upper registers you will enjoy this alot! The reader is very well paced. Very clear. Kind of old time yarning sort of feel. Like sitting on your grampy's porch while he tells you tales. I was really interested in what the author's taste was like, more than anything else. Later in another book Mr. King told the story of how this poor man was injured in a traffic accident and would not ever read again. Such a loss. I guess you could say that it will become a collector's item since he's SK's favorite. Also you can find info on how to donate to help this reader with medical bills in the back of the Tower Series (5,6 or 7). I wish i could find more by this reader but so far none to be found. Anyway, Enjoy this because it's a great listen.
