When Eve Duncan gave birth to her daughter, she experienced a love she never knew existed. Nothing would stand in the way of giving Bonnie a wonderful life - until the unthinkable happened and the seven-year-old vanished into thin air. Eve found herself in the throes of a nightmare from which there was no escape.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Probably not. The story was decent - I listened to the trilogy (Eve, Quinn and Bonnie), but the three books should have only been one. There is a lot of repetition. Further, the dialogue is wooden and overly dramatic and I found myself rolling my eyes every time one of the female characters "felt her breasts growing taut" with sexual tension. It got to the point that it was making me laugh, which clearly was not the intent. Narrator does a decent job with mediocre material. There are a lot better novels in the mystery/thriller/suspense genre and I won't be getting anything else by this author.

Devastated by the discovery that his wife, Helen, was murdered, Special Agent Pendergast must have retribution. But revenge is not simple. As he stalks his wife's betrayers-a chase that takes him from the wild moors of Scotland to the bustling streets of New York City and the darkest bayous of Louisiana - he is also forced to dig further into Helen's past. And he is stunned to learn that Helen may have been a collaborator in her own murder.

Where does Cold Vengeance rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

If you like suspense/mystery, you will like this book, although I would recommend starting with the first Pendergast book and work your way through them in chronological order - there are lots of threads that get picked up from prior books, which might be hard to follow if you have not read/listened to all of them.

What does Rene Auberjonois bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Rene Aubergonois is the perfect narrator for the Pendergast books - he does an amazing job and I never find myself focusing on the narrator rather than the story.

    Overall

I purchased this in advance of a trip to Germany. I am a real "dunce" when it comes to picking up other languages, but have been able to get the basics I might need for my trip from listening to the first 20 or so lessons on this book. It has short lessons with what are really "survival phrases" for a tourist - much better than another one I bought that wanted to teach me how to count to 1000 (at which point I quit listening). I really liked Narrator Judith Meyer - she speaks clearly and it is easy to understand how she is pronouncing words. But, when the Narrator switched about 2/3rds of the way through to Widar Wendt, I did not like this book and quit listening. Mr. Wendt speaks too fast and it is hard to understand his explanation of how to pronounce words as a result. If you are planning a vacation to Germany and just need some very basic phrases (please, thank you, where is the bathroom, excuse me, do you speak english, I don't understand etc.), then I would recommend this book.

Captain Hayward leads the official homocide investigation, while Pendergast, D'Agosta, and Nora undertake a private quest for the truth. Their serpentine journey takes them into a part of Manhattan they never imagined could exist: a secretive and deadly hotbed of Obeah, the West Indian Zombii cult of sorcery and magic. And it is here they find their true peril is just beginning.

"Good Audiobook if you like Pendergast!"
    Overall

Liked the book, although I agree with others that others in the Pendergast series were stronger books (i.e. the Diogenes (sp?) triology). This one is a bit gorier than usual. Rene Auberjonois is a great narrator and held my interest. Was bummed with the main character that got killed off.
