  • The Penny Pinchers Club

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 58 mins)
    • By Sarah Strohmeyer
    • Narrated By Johanna Parker

Author of the beloved Bubbles Yablonsky mystery series, Sarah Strohmeyer treats listeners to an entertaining novel about making it in hard times. Kat, a compulsive consumer at New Jersey's many malls, loves to shop until she drops - and it's taking a heavy toll on her marriage. Why else would her husband be using a secret bank account of his own? Finally, Kat is persuaded to join the Penny Pinchers Club. But there is such a thing as being too thrifty.

    Kathleen says: "Amusing"
    "Great summer audiobook! Go Sarah!"

This was my second Sarah Strohmeyer, the first being the print version of The Secret Lives of Fortunate Wives (Note to Audible - Definitely add this to your catalog!!!). I love Sarah's take on male/female relationships and how her heroine's gather strengths, learn new skills, and come away with success. Yes, her character's decisions may not always be the ones we personally would choose, but the role of fiction is to entertain! Her dialogue is full of quick wit, humor, self-depracation and lively discussion. I liked the reading style of Johanna Parker in this book. I do admit I turned up the speed to 1.5 so I could finish the book during a recent road trip, but it made the story more intense and worked fine for my needs.

In today's economic world, The Penny Pincher's Club had a very believable storyline, and I felt compassion and understanding for the main character. The suburban housewife delves into tons of debt and her personal journey makes her stronger in the end. I'm not going to ruin the ending, but this could be a great Lifetime flick. Maybe Ashley Judd in the leading role and Mark Consuelos as her husband??

I recommend The Penny Pinchers Club highly and will now proceed to download more Sarah Strohmeyer books - probably start with the Bubbles series. Happy listening!

  • Groundswell: Winning in a World Transformed by Social Technologies

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 17 mins)
    • By Charlene Li, Josh Bernoff
    • Narrated By Josh Bernoff

A groundswell is sweeping through your customers. Right now, they are writing about your products on blogs and recutting your commercials on YouTube. They're defining you on Wikipedia and ganging up on you in social networking sites like Facebook. These are all elements of a social phenomenon - the groundswell - that has created a permanent shift in the way the world works. Most companies see it as a threat. It's time to see it an opportunity.

Justin says: "I help me I tried."
    "Very Thorough & Informative"

This book is quickly becoming THE authority in marketing circles on the revolution of social media. Consumers are changing the way companies do business, and the major reason is because they now have a voice on the internet.

This book was written by the folks at Forrester after a very thorough review of the industry. It is sprinkled with fascinating case studies and real life examples of mistakes and successes to inspire other marketers like myself.

I highly recommend this audiobook and am now becoming a passionate advocate of the world of social media due to listening to this book.

  • Social Crimes

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 49 mins)
    • By Jane Stanton Hitchcock
    • Narrated By Barbara Rosenblat
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Dark secrets lurk beneath the glamour and glitter of New York's high-society life in this riveting tale of murder, obsession, and revenge. Jo Slater, one of the grandest of New York's grande dames, is knocked off her pedestal when her husband of 20 years dies under strange circumstances and leaves his fortune to a mysterious French countess. When Jo discovers she has been the victim of a plot, she decides to set things straight. And nothing is going to get in her way.

Jane says: "Social Crimes has it all!"
    "Go Jo Go!!"

I'm now a fan of author Jane Stanton Hitchcock after reading this book. I heard her a few years ago on an NPR interview and bought the download based on those merits. Now I'm so smitten with the strength of her lead heroine, Jo Slater, the strong society maven who has come back through thick and thin in Social Crimes and is now back in One Dangerous Lady. This is a great book! I highly recommend it!! Smart, funny, and if you want more, now a second book for those who can't get enough... like me!!

  • I Am Charlotte Simmons

    • UNABRIDGED (31 hrs and 16 mins)
    • By Tom Wolfe
    • Narrated By Dylan Baker

Dupont University: the Olympian halls of learning housing the cream of America's youth, the roseate Gothic spires and manicured lawns suffused with tradition....Or so it appears to beautiful, brilliant Charlotte Simmons, a sheltered freshman from North Carolina, who has come here on full scholarship. But Charlotte soon learns, to her mounting dismay, that for the upper-crust coeds of Dupont, sex, Cool, and kegs trump academic achievement every time.

Eric says: "Decadence through the eyes of a ?good girl?"
    "Worth the length"

I just finished the audiobook after downloading it a while ago. It was well worth the long time to listen. The characters were very well developed and the storylines came together in a very realistic manner. I was sad when the book came to an end. The end of the book has a nice short interview with the author who talks about his experiences collecting information.

  • R is for Ricochet: A Kinsey Millhone Mystery

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 33 mins)
    • By Sue Grafton
    • Narrated By Judy Kaye
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Reba Lafferty was a daughter of privilege, the only child of an adoring father. Over the years, he quietly settled her many scrapes with the law, but he wasn't there for her when she was convicted of embezzlement and sent to the California Institute for Women. Now, at 32, she is about to be paroled, having served 22 months of a four-year sentence. Nord Lafferty wants to be sure she stays straight, stays at home and away from the drugs, the booze, the gamblers.

    Bill says: "Kinsey in Love?"
    "R is for Really great!!"

This was such a fun book! I am a devourer of Sue Grafton books, and this one was awesome!! Fast, fun, full of interesting characters -- it didn't disappoint! I loved the addition of a romance - it was done with Kinsey's typical no-nonsense practical approach and tongue-in-cheek humor. Judy Kay is great narrator too, really getting the pace and irony of Kinsey. I recommend this download highly!!

  • So 5 Minutes Ago

    • ABRIDGED (5 hrs and 48 mins)
    • By Hilary de Vries
    • Narrated By Laura Hamilton

For Alex Davidson, being a celebrity publicist at a Los Angeles PR firm isn't the glamour job she thought it would be. Her love life is zilch, her newest client is an actor fresh out of rehab, and her firm has just been bought out by a rival agency. Suddenly, Alex finds her once-secure job at stake.

    Pamela says: "Great find!"
    "Great find!"

I loved this brain candy! It was fast, funny and very modern. I hope the author continues this stream. The behind the scenes look at the Hollywood publicity machine is fun for any readers of today's tabloid gossip!
