  • Tough Sh-t: Life Advice from a Fat, Lazy Slob Who Did Good

Take one look at Kevin Smith: He's a balding fatty who wears a size XXL hockey jersey, shorts, and slippers year-round. Not a likely source for life advice. But take a second look at Kevin Smith: He changed filmmaking forever when he was twenty-four with the release of Clerks, and since then has gone on to make nine more profitable movies, runs his own production company, wrote a best-selling graphic novel, and has a beautiful wife and kids. So he must be doing something right.

The words from Kevin Smith's mouth are that of a pessimist, but the actions he takes in life are that of a dreamer...

What a great narration of Kevin Smith's book, read for you by the only person who can deliver it in that specific style, Kevin Smith!

Thank you for giving us such an optimistic gift disguised under pessimistic wrapping paper. (opens gift) Holy sh-t, the glass is half full... And there's more than one!

It's okay to have big dreams, or be big for that matter. You know, Mr. Smith, it's time to start being a little more easy on yourself. We like you more when you don't care what we think.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Grats Ray Porter and Peter Clines for making such a work of art here. This story goes from being very grounded in reality to the edge of Peter Clines' imagination.

    This is a must listen.
I cannot thank them enough for doing such superb work!

  • Stop Playing Safe: Rethink Risk, Unlock the Power of Courage, Achieve Outstanding Success

What could you achieve if you were more courageous? We are hardwired to avoid risk but in an increasingly uncertain and competitive world, the true key to success is courage—the courage to speak up and challenge the status quo, the courage to take career-building risks, and the courage to seize the opportunities all around us. So, what's stopping you?

Where does Stop Playing Safe rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's not at the top, a lot of the information is great, but not original.
Although if I were only going to listen to one personal development book this year, this one might be it.

What did you like best about this story?

The wide variety of helpful information that is applicable to make real life changes.

What aspect of Eleanor David’s performance would you have changed?

    The British part ;)
Frankly, British accents are usually intriguing for me. However the accent and inflections took away from the quality information.
I think Eleanor's voice is great, but more suited for fiction and character work.

    Any additional comments?

For some reason the author seems to have a limiting belief about fear and that she has to be courageous to get through the fear. Toward the end there is more openness and good advice for changing your reality. It's like the author was stuck in some fear while writing and worked her way through it as she went. The best advice I've gotten recently, "The opposite of fear isn't courage, it's love."

Han Solo should be basking in his moment of glory. After all, the cocky smuggler and captain of the Millennium Falcon just played a key role in the daring raid that destroyed the Death Star and landed the first serious blow to the Empire in its war against the Rebel Alliance. But after losing the reward his heroics earned him, Han's got nothing to celebrate. Especially since he's deep in debt to the ruthless crime lord Jabba the Hutt. There's a bounty on Han's head - and if he can't cough up the credits, he'll surely pay with his hide. The only thing that can save him is a king's ransom. Or maybe a gangster's fortune?

What made the experience of listening to Scoundrels: Star Wars the most enjoyable?

Getting to relive some of the nostalgia from my youth. I love these characters!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Scoundrels: Star Wars?

No spoiler, but man... what a twist!

What about Marc Thompson’s performance did you like?

All of the voices! Occasionally Han would sound like one of the other characters, but his performance is very versatile and authentic to the Star Wars Universe overall.

    Any additional comments?

While the background ambiances and sounds add to the general Star Wars vibe, it does sound pretty awkward when listening at 2X and 3X speeds.
