Tess Durbeyfield has become one of the most famous female protagonists in 19th-century British literature. Betrayed by the two men in her life - Alec D’Urberville, her seducer/rapist and father of her fated child; and Angel, her intellectual and pious husband - Tess takes justice, and her own destiny, into her delicate hands. In telling her desperate and passionate story, Hardy brings Tess to life with an extraordinary vividness that makes her live in the heart of the reader long after the novel is concluded.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

not really. i was thinking this was a great classic, and wanted to mark it off that list, but it was not great at all. the heroin was not a strong female role model, she had no redeeming qualities. why is this a classic?

Has Tess of the d’Urbervilles turned you off from other books in this genre?

    no.

Could you see Tess of the d’Urbervilles being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

    a movie yes.

The Buckmaster Gallery is staging another Derwatt exhibition, but now an American collector claims that the expensive masterpiece he bought three years ago is a fake. It is, of course, and he wants to talk to Derwatt, but Derwatt, inconveniently, is dead. Ripley needs the perfect solution to keep his role in the fraud a secret and his reputation clean, but not everyone's nerves are as steady as his. Especially when it comes to murder.

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

    "Emotional roller coaster"

Where does Gone Girl rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    Very good

    Which scene was your favorite?

When Amy was robbed by the two people at the campsite. At that point in the story she had it coming.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book was truly a roller coaster ride. At one point I was feeling bad for Amy, then for Nick, but ultimately I felt bad for both of them...they are such a sad couple. So dependent on each other.
