While this story was set during the war in Nigeria, it had more to do with the characters and their relationships with each other. I was hesitant to listen after reading some of the other reviews. This is not a quick story with something constantly happening or a lot of drama. The author kind of stays in a moment. However, ,I really loved this audiobook. It was very realistic...not sugarcoating the bad or over dramitizing. The more I listened, the more the Nigerian civil war sounded so much like any other civil war and the responses and behavior of the people the same of anyone else put in the same situation. It really illustrated, to me, how very similar we all are in our humanity, no matter our culture or country.
I selected this audiobook because I am a fan of Claire Danes and she does not disappoint with her narration. This was the first Margaret Atwood book I have listened to/read and am now a fan. Great dystopian novel.
This is a beautiful story with themes of faith and the strength of the human spirit. The narration is perfect and lends so much to the story. I can't express how deeply this book affected me. This is one that I will listen to over and over. I highly recommend this audiobook!
I chose this book based on the reviews on this site. It is a really wonderful, complex story filled with subtleties. It was a fairly easy listen but I was captivated the whole time. I highly recommend it!
Yes, fun take on Lincoln's life. Love the historical aspect mixed in with the vampires. Also, appreciated that it wasn't cheesy or too supernatural / fantasy.
