I didn't think I could be happy with any ending to this series, as I enjoyed the characters so much; but Ms. Carriger is able to tie things up and make one feel good about the characters' future.
I loved the characters in this story. The vampires remind one of Twilight, but without all the teen angst! The flaws in the characters' personalities make them more real, thus making it impossible to quit reading as I had to find out what happened next. I actually enjoyed the everyday scenes such as the yoga class. A little goofy that smooth, suave Matthew would be there, but a nice device to show a situation where the creatures were able to get along. I certainly hope there is another book soon. It's probably good that it isn't out yet, though. My family would wonder if I was ever going to return!
This is the best Amelia story yet. The plot twists and turns as much as the path Amelia and Emerson take. The reader can't tell who they should trust!
I am so glad I experienced this novel as an audiobook! True, there is sometimes too much of a good thing in some of the lengthy descriptions the author uses, but the style fits with the fantasy world of the story. The narrator fits his emotions and pitch with each character and brings them to life, yet still allows the reader to imagine the rest. The icing on the cake is the piano music composed by the author. The notes add texture to what you experience. The flaws in this book are more than made up for by its strengths, earning it 5 stars.
I normally do not read or listen to a book more than once (there are too many!), but I have listened to "Across the Nightengale Floor" 3 times. The story is engaging and the characters are intriguing. The narrators are wonderful to hear. I have enjoyed all of the Otori books I have read, but this is definitely my favorite.
The narration of "Water for Elephants" is truly one of the best I have heard! Both narrators are outstanding, adding so much depth to each "side" of the main character. This is a wonderful book on its own, but I am so glad I listened to it rather than reading the paper copy. The performers really added to my enjoyment of the story.
