  • Bad Moon Rising: A Dark-Hunter Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 25 mins)
    • By Sherrilyn Kenyon
    • Narrated By Holter Graham

Fang Kattalakis isn't just a wolf. He is the brother of two of the most powerful members of the Omegrion: the ruling council that enforces the laws of the Were-Hunters. And when war erupts among the lycanthropes, sides must be chosen. Enemies are forced into shaky alliances. And when the woman Fang loves is accused of betraying her people, her only hope is that Fang believes in her.

    "Decent DH addition"

Not the best but better than some of the DH series stories. I have to admit that I wasn't really pulled in with the marketing hype about Fang's story - honestly i didn't think his character was all that interesting before but this story was pretty good.

If you've read through other reviews, you know this story is the Fang/Amy "backstory" during the stories of Talon, Vane and Wren. I thought that was actually very creative and an interesting approach. The only "timeline" issue I struggled with was the end. It seemed to cross over past Acheron's story but didn't connect with some of the goings-on between Tabitha's story to Ash's story. For me, the ending events just hung out there with no timeline connection, like it was a dangling piece that didn't fit into the fabric of the DH series. (True, she has many inconsistencies in her stories - but this one was hard to overlook)

If I were to rank this were-hunter story, it's behind Wren's story but definitely better than Vane's and pet-dander Raven (bleck!).

The real reason I got this is because Holter Graham is the narrator - he has the sexiest voice ever and does an excellent job bringing Sherrilyn Kenyon's unique humor to life. That was the tipping point for me to get this addition and I'm glad I did. I recommend it if you are a DH fan.

  • Hunting Julian: Gatherers, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (5 hrs and 15 mins)
    • By Jacquelyn Frank
    • Narrated By Xe Sands
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

As a guardian for his colony, Julian Sawyer travels to Earth to bring back the Chosen: women who possess energy potent enough to help revitalize his people. The stunning, silver-clad beauty who strides into his club one night radiates a sensual magnetism unlike any he's encountered, and Julian realizes that Asia Callahan is not just Chosen, she is his kindra: his one true mate. For months, Asia has tracked the beautiful and mysterious Julian across the country, convinced that he's behind the disappearance of her sister and a dozen other women.

    "I hated Asia! What a B****"
What disappointed you about Hunting Julian?

Asia...I swear there was nothing likable about her. She kept saying "she's not the one" and I believed her. We were giving absolutely nothing by which to like her. At one point, I wondered why Julian didn't just run off with her sister: she's beautiful, big hearted, kind, and compassionate. And maybe Julian would have been likable if the narrator didn't make him sound like he was on the verge of tears all the time, even when he was suppose to be yelling and angry. Overall, I got through 3/4 of the book and just couldn't finish it. Very disappointing.

Would you be willing to try another one of Xe Sands’s performances?

No. This isn't my first audible by her. She's monotone and misses conveying the emotion in the text. I used the audible to fall asleep one night when I was staying in a hotel and couldn't get to sleep. That's when I knew that I wouldn't be able to finish the book. Her voice put me into a state of narcalepsy.

  • Old Filth

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 14 mins)
    • By Jane Gardam
    • Narrated By Graeme Malcom
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

FILTH is a lawyer with a practice in the Far East. A few remember that his nickname stands for Failed In London Try Hong Kong. But Old Filth is not as pompous as people imagine, and his past contains many secrets and dark hiding places.

    "I don't get it"

I couldn't finish this. The reading was awful. There was probably a plot but I couldn't wade through the lack of believable or lovable characters.

  • Sebastian: Ephemera, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 7 mins)
    • By Anne Bishop
    • Narrated By Holter Graham
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Long ago, Ephemera was split into a dizzying number of magical lands-connected only by bridges that may take you where you truly belong, rather than where you had intended to go. In one such land, where night reigns and demons dwell, the half-incubus Sebastian revels in dark delights. But in dreams she calls to him: a woman who wants only to be safe and loved-a woman he hungers for while knowing he may destroy her.And an even more devastating destiny awaits him, for an ancient evil is stirring.

    Chandler says: "beautiful world"
    "beautiful world"

If you like alternative world-style fantasy, then this is a decent book.

There were some pretty silly and humorous moments in the beginning part of the books, because the writer mainly couldn't decide if she was going for romance or fantasy. In the end, she tipped over to fantasy and focused on the world rather than the characters.

You would think that it would be a rather risque book having an incubus as the main character, but the romance were barely PG, so if you are looking for something a little more racey, this book won't deliver that for you.

I was torn between a 3 and a 4 rating. I would give it a 3.5 if I could. I would give it a 4 for the world she created but a 3 on character development. In the end, I really wanted to like Sebastian but wound up not caring what happened to him in the end. His lover was not likeable at all. Belladonna outshown the main characters which leads me to believe the second book might be better.

Holter Graham does a great job narrating the book - as always.

  • One Silent Night: A Dark-Hunter Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs and 14 mins)
    • By Sherrilyn Kenyon
    • Narrated By Scott Brick

While the world carries on unawares, Stryker, who leads an army of demons and vampires, is plotting an all out onslaught against his enemies - which, unfortunately for us, includes the entire human race. To avenge his sister, Stryker prepares to annihilate the Dark-Hunters. But things go awry when his oldest enemy returns. Enter his ex-wife. Zephyra.

A User says: "Narrator is TERRIBLE"
    "Terrible Narrator"

I really couldn't stand this narrator. So much so, that I decided to buy the next book in paperback rather than suffer through him again. Bring back Holter Graham - he has the sexiest voice ever.

As for the story, it's a nice bridge story to set up the next phase in the Dark Hunter series. If you are a fan, you must read this book.
