"Wow"
If you like history and are intrigued by the sea, then please give this book a listen. I learned so much about the history of trade, as well as the whaling industry. The book is a fast listen, and a story that couldn't have been written better as fiction. The narrator did a fine job as well.
"Great Pace"
You know right away in this book what the crime was, and who committed it. From that point on, the reader is led to walk with the main character as his walls start closing in on him, and it really is a nerve-wrecking walk! I liked getting to know all of the characters as well, and thought the story was all around, well written & exciting! Recommended for anyone who likes a good suspense story - this one is set against the personal life of a corporate CEO.
"Enlightening"
I really enjoyed reading this book, told from the point of view of a father to a drug-addicted son. I felt like I made a connection to the family, and found myself rooting for the son's recovery along the way. Today's television shows and movies all deal with the issue of drugs, but this one takes you along for the ride and gives you a deeper understanding of addiction.
I would recommend this book for anyone who has a friend or family member dealing with the daily struggle of drugs, or any addiction for that matter.
"Fresh Breath of Koontz"
I really enjoyed this book - sometimes the sci-fi tendency of Koontz goes too far, and this books lack of that is a huge positive in my opinion. All of the characters were relatable, and the story kept moving. I would recommend this book for all Koontz fans, as well as those looking for a fast moving adventure, with twists of course!
"Relaxing..."
3 Stars because it did relax me, but only 3 stars because I only fell asleep - there has been no change to my weight pattern after listening to it several times.
Good for sleep though!
"Adventure + History"
I really enjoyed this book! This is the way I should have been taught everything growing up - slap an adventure tale on top of lots of history, and WOW - when is the test?
I gave my Dad the hardback after listening to this, since he is planning a fishing trip on the Amazon later this year, and he couldn't put it down either.
I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys History, or anyone who is looking for a good, old-fashioned "river adventure". Like a previous poster said, I really feel like a wuss after hearing about how tough it is "out there".
Bottom line: Great Book.
"Just the Facts"
This is a good book, but it was hard for me to get excited about it. There is no mystery here, which I knew, but I was hoping for some super detective work or something... but no.
If you are interested in hearing just the facts, and a LOT of background information about every single person who lived in or visited this town, then I would recommend this book to you.
If you are looking for twists and action, I would pass on this one.
The narrator is excellent and the book is well written - I'm just more of an action-person I guess.
"Another Patterson Great"
I love the dynamic of these 4 women. Each has their own interesting storyline, while at the same time solving crimes. I would recommend reading "1st to Die" first to get to know the characters, and I plan on continuing on with the series.
"Yikes..."
I am a huge Patterson fan, but I honestly have to say that this one was a disappointment. I felt like the ending (last 45 minutes) was from a different story, and I really was left not believing things would ever turn out this way.
This does not squash my belief that Patterson is a phenomenal author - everybody has their 'jump the shark' moment of fame. Hopefully he 'bounces back' (sorry for all of the clich?s) after this one, and hits us with another winner in his next release.
Note about multiple narrators - it was hard to get used to, and I do believe that it added to the ending not being believable - They should have stuck to 1 good narrator. I may have enjoyed it a bit more.
"Action Packed"
I usually try to avoid the "bandwagon" books, but with the movie coming out and having received more than a couple of personal recommendations, I jumped on board and purchased this book.
I am so glad I did! The storyline starts moving within the first 5 minutes, and never stops. This book held my interest for every minute, and the narrator did a wonderful job. I now understand the hype, and encourage my fellow readers to listen to this book. Now I can look forward to seeing the movie.
