"Compelling, creepy and sensitive"
This was a great listen. Mr. Depue has lead a fascinating life, ranging from profiling and chasing serial killers, to joining a monastery. Truly incredible professional story that really opens the readers eyes to the brutality of murder, and the hero's that hunt them.
"What a bummer!"
What a shame! As other reviewers have stated, I wish I never would have gone past the triliogy. This story is boring, confusing and way too many characters to keep track of. In fact,I didn't care what happened to anyone, as long as it was over. Don't waste your money like I did.
"Not All That Good"
I have listened to 50 or so audio books that I just loved, and this one was just kinda OK. It was a more of a disaster of a life and the unfortunate total run down and corruption of eastern block countries. In my opinion, this is a story that probably 1,000's of every day people have in that corrupt and damaged part of the world who are trying to make ends meet when the government can't finds it's head with two hands.
"Dissapointing"
I am as great fan of Kellerman, and I am not sure if the writing was dull or if it was the narrator. I was very disturbed when the male narrator would speak as a female....just didn't work for me.
"Great Book Woof Woof"
I truly loved this book. I laughed and I cried, a warm, funny and insightful book. My only problem was the author reading the book. His voice is not pleasing to listen to. In fact, I was distracted by his voice throughout the entire read.
"This book ROCKED!"
I truly enjoyed this great piece of California and world geological history. Extremely well researched, well presented and researched. If you have every been through a California earthquake like I have (Loma Prieta, 1989) and watched your chimney come down, and 2 feet of water shoot out of your pool, your refrigerator bounce to the center of your kitchen, and all of your good california wine come crashing to the floor then this book will be a great listen!!!!
"Incredible listen, ought to be a movie!"
What more can I say, that the other reviewers haven't already said. There must be some movie producer who has bought the option to this wonderful story! It was excellent... I cried, I laughed and I even sent a copy to my mother-in-law! Need I say more?
"Captivating and colorful"
I really enjoyed this book quite a bit. It was very descriptive and described in great detail the exotic beauty and inner mechanizations of turn of the century India. Very entertaining with several great twists and plot turns. I also really like the narrator, he is a very good "stuffy" Brit.
"Wonderful!"
I adored this book from start to finish. I have listened to Anthony Bourdain (loved him) and Ruth Reichl (loved her). Jacques was very good in talking about his early and extraordinary French culinary training as a boy continuing on into his adulthood.
"Reminds me of a 80's filmstrip"
What a wonderful and fascinating topic. Too bad it is as dry as a 1950's middle school filmstrip. I felt like the reader was just way out of his league with the topic, and approached the read as a thesis report. Please don't waste your time or money. Read/listen to Ann Rule instead!
"Superb!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Yep, this one was great as well. What a wonderful, funny and sometimes sad life. Ruth Reichl is a wonderful cook and writer. I want more!
